Separator units that keep needles apart across the width.
What This Part Does On The Machine
Separators sit between needles and hold them at the correct spacing so that neighbouring needles cannot touch as the bar rises and falls. On fine gauge machines the separator is what keeps the needle line straight over the full working width.
Worn separators let the needle line wander. The fabric shows uneven loop length across the width rather than a single line, which is the way to tell separator wear from a single damaged element.
