1-Propanol
1-Propanol is the main raw material for n-propyl acetate, the green food printing ink solvent, and for n-propylamine, di-n-propylamine, bromopropane and ethylene glycol monopropyl ether. It is also an excellent solvent in its own right, used as a special solvent for flexographic printing inks on polyolefin and polyamide films. Supplied at 99.80% minimum purity.
What You Get With This Grade
- Purity 99.80% minimum with water at 0.10% maximum and acid as acetic acid at 0.003% maximum
- Colour 10.00 Pt-Co maximum, which matters when the ink prints on a white substrate
- The upstream raw material for four downstream products we also list or supply
- 165 kg galvanised iron drum or ISO tank, packed to your requirement
Technical features
- Purity 99.80% minimum
- Acid content as acetic acid 0.003% maximum
- Colour 10.00 Pt-Co maximum
- Water 0.10% maximum
Where 1-Propanol Is Used
Flexographic ink printing
Used as a special solvent for flexographic printing inks, especially for printing on polyolefin and polyamide films.
n-Propyl acetate manufacture
The main raw material for n-propyl acetate, the green food printing ink solvent.
Amine and bromide feedstock
The main raw material for n-propylamine, di-n-propylamine, the cleaning agent bromopropane and ethylene glycol monopropyl ether.
Pharmaceutical intermediates
Used to produce probenecid, adhesive haemostatic agent BCA, propylthiamine and 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylate propyl ester.
Cellulose chemistry
A solvent for carboxymethylation of cellulose, and a gelling agent and plasticizer for cellulose acetate.
How 1-Propanol Looks and Ships

Buyers This Grade Is Built For
- Flexographic and gravure ink makers printing on film
- Ester producers making n-propyl acetate
- API manufacturers on probenecid or propylthiamine routes
- Cellulose acetate processors needing a gelling agent and plasticizer
What It Stops Going Wrong
- Ink solvent with colour above specification yellows a white print
- Water above 0.10% shifts the evaporation balance in a flexo ink and causes blocking
- Buying the alcohol and the acetate from two suppliers splits one ink system across two supply chains
- Acidity in the alcohol attacks the press and the anilox

How It Ships and How to Store It
Packing
- Galvanised iron drum, 165 kg net per drum
- ISO tank for bulk
- Can be packaged according to user requirements
Storage and transport
- Store as a flammable liquid away from ignition sources
- Keep drums closed so water content stays inside specification
How the Lot Is Released
Purity, water, acidity and Pt-Co colour are checked against the quality index before release, with SDS and COA available for the lot.
What We Can Change
165 kg drums as standard, ISO tank for bulk, and other packing according to user requirements.
Against the Alternatives
1-Propanol is the straight-chain propanol; 2-propanol is the secondary isomer at the same 60.10 molecular weight. 1-Propanol is the ink and ester feedstock; 2-propanol is the cleaning, antibacterial and laboratory alcohol. Against propyl acetate, 1-propanol is the raw material and the acetate is the product.
Handling 1-Propanol on Your Site
Written for the person who receives the drum, not for a brochure.
- Use with propyl acetate as the quick-drying moderator in flexo ink systems
- Confirm the Pt-Co colour figure when printing on white or pale substrates
- Keep drums sealed against moisture pick-up
- Store and handle as a flammable liquid
1-Propanol FAQ
What purity is your 1-propanol?
99.80% minimum, with water at 0.10% maximum, acid as acetic acid at 0.003% maximum and colour at 10.00 Pt-Co maximum.
Is it suitable for printing on polyolefin film?
Yes. It is used as a special solvent for flexographic printing inks, particularly for printing on polyolefin and polyamide films.
What downstream products does it feed?
n-Propyl acetate, n-propylamine, di-n-propylamine, bromopropane and ethylene glycol monopropyl ether, plus pharmaceutical intermediates including probenecid and propylthiamine.
What is the standard packing?
Galvanised iron drum at 165 kg net, or ISO tank, and packing can be arranged to your requirement.
How is it different from 2-propanol?
Same molecular weight but a different isomer. 1-Propanol is the ink solvent and ester feedstock; 2-propanol is used for cleaning, antibacterial applications and laboratory work.
Can you supply propyl acetate as well?
Yes, both are in the alcohols aldehydes and esters family and can be quoted together.
