1-Methoxy-2-Propanol PM
1-Methoxy-2-propanol, the glycol ether known as PM, is used as a solvent, dispersant or diluent in coating, ink, printing and dyeing, pesticide, cellulose and acrylate work. It also serves as a fuel antifreeze, a cleaning agent, an extractant, a non-ferrous metal ore dressing agent and a raw material for organic synthesis. Every figure below has both a specification and a measured result.
What You Get With This Grade
- PM content 99.5% minimum with 99.96% measured on the reported lot
- 2-Methoxy-1-propanol isomer held at 0.4% maximum with 0.02% measured
- Distillation range 117-125 °C with 117.6-119 °C measured, a narrow real-world cut
- Acid number 100 ppm maximum with 30 ppm measured, tested to HG/T 3939
Technical features
- Colourless and transparent with no mechanical impurities
- Density 0.9180-0.9240 g/cm³ at 20 °C, measured 0.9210
- Colour Hazen 10 maximum with 5 measured
- Water 0.1% maximum with 0.0249% measured
Where 1-Methoxy-2-Propanol PM Is Used
Coating and ink solvency
A solvent, dispersant or diluent in coating and ink formulation.
Printing and dyeing
Used in printing and dyeing operations.
Pesticide formulation
Used in pesticide formulations as a solvent carrier.
Cellulose and acrylate systems
Applied in cellulose and acrylate industries.
Fuel antifreeze and cleaning
Also used as fuel antifreeze, cleaning agent, extractant and non-ferrous metal ore dressing agent.
Buyers This Grade Is Built For
- Coating chemists needing a coalescing glycol ether with a narrow boiling cut
- Ink and dye houses requiring low acid number solvents
- Pesticide formulators needing an emulsifiable carrier solvent
- Mineral processing operations using it as an ore dressing agent
What It Stops Going Wrong
- The 2-methoxy-1-propanol isomer is the regulated one, so its level has to be stated, not assumed
- A wide distillation range means unpredictable flash-off in a coating oven
- Acid number drift attacks pigment stability and equipment
- Water above specification breaks emulsion stability in pesticide formulations

How It Ships and How to Store It
Packing
- Can be packaged according to user requirements
Storage and transport
- Store as a flammable liquid away from ignition sources
- Keep containers closed against moisture pick-up
How the Lot Is Released
Each lot is reported against GB/T and HG/T test methods for density, distillation range, water, acid number, PM content, isomer content and colour.
What We Can Change
Packing is arranged according to user requirements. Tell us drum, IBC or bulk with the enquiry.
Against the Alternatives
PM is the glycol ether; PMA is its acetate, made by acetylating the same backbone. PM is the more polar of the two and is used where hydroxyl functionality helps; PMA carries both ether and ester groups and is the choice for high grade coatings, electronic chemicals and ink printing. Both are supplied by Dakings.
Handling 1-Methoxy-2-Propanol PM on Your Site
Written for the person who receives the drum, not for a brochure.
- Use the measured distillation range of 117.6-119 °C when setting oven or press drying profiles
- Check the 2-methoxy-1-propanol figure if your market regulates that isomer
- Keep drums sealed — the 0.0249% measured water will rise if they are not
- Store and handle as a flammable liquid
