Halogenated intermediates fail on water, not on assay. A few hundred ppm of moisture kills a Grignard initiation and turns a scheduled batch into a quenched reactor.

Which bromopropane should I use for a Grignard reagent?
Both are used as Grignard raw materials. 1-Bromopropane is the straight-chain reagent also used as an alkylating agent for aromatics and as an intermediate for prothiamine and probenecid. 2-Bromopropane is the isopropyl handle and is the one used in napropamide pesticide manufacture.
What moisture level do the bromopropanes carry?
1-Bromopropane is specified at 300 ppm maximum water by Karl Fischer with purity at 99.5% minimum by GC. 2-Bromopropane is specified at 0.05% maximum water with the same 99.5% minimum purity.
Is dibromoneopentyl glycol a reactive or additive flame retardant?
It is reactive. It builds into unsaturated polyester, thermoplastic and polyurethane resins and into rigid polyurethane foam, so the loading needed is small and the mechanical properties of the base resin are not affected.
Can these ship in bulk rather than drums?
The liquids — both chlorobutanes, both bromopropanes and 1,4-dichlorobutane — can go by tank truck as well as 175-180 kg drums. Dibromoneopentyl glycol is a crystalline powder packed 25 kg per bag.
