Perforated Metal
Hole size, pitch, open area and the thicknesses each pattern can be punched in - all published.
One sheet slit and stretched into mesh - no wire, no welds, nothing to unravel.

Expanded metal mesh is made by slitting and stretching a single sheet, so the mesh has no welds and no loose wire ends.
It is made from expanded steel mesh, aluminium, stainless steel, nickel and other metals, and used as steel reinforcement in petroleum, chemical industry and building decoration.
It is also used for fencing on roads, railways, civil buildings and water conservancy works, and for protecting machines, electrical equipment, windows and aquatic breeding.
Welded or woven mesh can unravel at a cut edge. Expanded mesh is one piece of metal, so it cannot.
Reinforcement mesh needs mass, not aperture. The weight column - 0.73 to 28.26 kg per square metre - is the number that actually matters, and it is published here.
Thin mesh bought for a heavy guard deforms on first impact; thicknesses run to 8 mm for exactly that case.
Punched sheet wastes the slug. Expanding wastes nothing, which shows up in the price of heavy gauges.

Steel is the standard. Aluminium is chosen where weight is the constraint, stainless where corrosion is, and nickel for specialised chemical service. Because the mesh is formed from a single sheet, the base metal's own corrosion behaviour carries through with no coating at the cut edges to worry about.
Check thickness, short way and long way dimensions and weight per square metre against the specification line you ordered. Weight is the fastest single check that the right specification has been shipped.
Flat sheet selected in the ordered thickness from 0.5 mm to 8 mm.
The sheet is slit and stretched in one operation to form the diamond pattern.
Where a flat sheet is ordered, the raised mesh is rolled flat.
Sheets cut to the ordered width and length.
Edges trimmed and sheets stacked for shipment.
| Product | Where It Fits |
|---|---|
| Expanded metal mesh | One-piece; no welds; up to 8 mm thick; strongest per kilogram |
| Perforated metal | Punched; exact round holes; thinner gauges; higher cost per square metre in heavy sheet |
| Welded wire mesh | Welded wires; lighter; cheaper for fencing and animal housing |
