Do gabions need drainage behind them?
No. The stone fill lets water seep through while retaining the soil, so no additional drainage is required to relieve hydrostatic pressures.
What mesh tolerance applies to hexagonal netting?
The published tolerances comply with EN 10223-2:1997, from plus or minus 1.0 mm on 10 mm mesh up to plus or minus 8.0 mm on 100 mm mesh.
Which insect screen material lasts at the coast?
Aluminium, Al-Mg alloy, fibreglass or stainless steel in 304, 316 or 316L. Galvanized iron screen is an inland specification.
Can gabions be shipped folded?
Yes, and they normally are. Folding them cuts transport freight, and they are opened and assembled on site before filling.
