What Welded Wire Mesh Is and Who Buys It
Welded wire mesh is made from plain steel wire and stainless steel wire, cross-welded at every intersection, giving good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance.
It is used for poultry houses, egg baskets, runway enclosures, draining racks, porch guards, rat-proofing, machine safety guards, animal and plant pens and shelving.
Four finishes are offered and nine mesh sizes are held for export, each with its own usable wire gauge range.

Problems It Solves
Buying mesh by aperture alone gets you the wrong wire. Each aperture here has a published gauge band - 1/2 inch mesh runs BWG 22 to BWG 16, not one fixed wire.
Galvanized-after-weaving costs more but covers the weld nugget; galvanized-before-weaving leaves it exposed. Both are offered so the choice is yours to make rather than the supplier's to hide.

Material Options
Plain low carbon steel wire is the standard. Stainless steel wire is welded where the mesh is washed down, sits in a damp building or handles food. The finish decides service life as much as the base wire: galvanizing after weaving covers the weld nugget, thermal electroplating gives an even light coating, and PVC adds a polymer skin over the zinc.
Quality Control
Check aperture, wire gauge and finish on arrival. Weld integrity is the property that matters most in guarding and animal housing - a mesh that has lost welds at the selvedge will unravel in service.

Use Guide
- Choose aperture by what has to be kept out - 1/4 inch for rodents, 1/2 to 1 inch for poultry, 1.5 to 2 inch for general pens and guards.
- Then pick the gauge inside that aperture's published band: heavier for guards, lighter for baskets.
- Specify galvanized after weaving for wet or washed-down installations.
- Cut with bolt cutters, not an abrasive disc, to avoid burning the zinc back from the cut.
- Support panels on a frame at 300-450 mm centres where they carry load.

What mesh sizes do you export as standard?
1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1.5 and 2 inch, plus the rectangular 1x1/2 inch and 1x2 inch. In millimetres that is 6.4 to 50.8 mm.
What wire gauge comes with each mesh size?
A band, not a single wire. For example 1/2 inch mesh is supplied in BWG 22 to BWG 16 (0.71-1.65 mm) and 2 inch mesh in BWG 16 to BWG 12 (1.65-2.77 mm). The full table is on this page.
What roll sizes do you ship?
General export rolls are 3, 4, 5 and 6 ft wide by 100 ft long. Panels are cut to order.
Which finish should I choose for a poultry house?
