Passivation Roll Coater for Color Coating and Galvanizing Lines
The passivation roll coater applies a thin coating film of a trivalent chrome compound to the strip surface to protect it against corrosion. Applicator and pick up rolls transfer the solution evenly, with the coater heads positioned on the front and opposite sides of the strip.
- Applies trivalent chrome passivation film
- Horizontal, vertical and winding types available
- Vertical type generally used in galvanizing lines
- All three types suit colour coating lines
Key Benefits
What passivation does for the coil.
Corrosion Protection
A thin trivalent chrome film on the plate surface protects it against corrosion during storage, transport and service.
Even Film From Roll Transfer
Applicator and pick up rolls apply paint and passivation solution uniformly across the strip surface.
Configuration To Suit The Line
Horizontal, vertical and winding types mean the coater matches the strip path in your finishing section.
Where It Is Used
Line positions.
- Passivation stations on galvanizing lines
- Colour coating line finishing sections
- Aluzinc and galvanized coil treatment
- Corrosion protection before coil storage
Who It Is For
- Galvanizing line operators
- Colour coating line owners
- Plants adding a passivation station
- Project teams specifying finishing equipment
Problems It Solves
- Corrosion on stored and transported coil
- Uneven passivation film across the width
- Coater geometry not matching the strip path
- Contact damage from applicator rolls
Technical Features
Machine arrangement.
Front And Opposite Side Heads
Coater heads are located in front of and opposite the strip so both surfaces can be treated.
Slight Off Strip Clearance
Front and back applicator rolls run with a slight off strip contact to improve the coating application.
Quick Opening Top Head
The top side head is equipped with a quick opening mechanism for access and cleaning.

Customization Options
- Horizontal, vertical or winding configuration
- Width and speed range to your line
- Head count and arrangement
- Interface to your solution supply system
Use Guide
- Maintain the specified off strip clearance, contact damages the film
- Clean rolls thoroughly between chemistry changes
- Check film weight across the width regularly
- Use the quick opening head for cleaning access
How It Compares
Configuration choices.
| Vertical type | Generally deployed in galvanizing lines where the strip runs vertically through the passivation station. |
|---|---|
| Horizontal type | Used on colour coating lines with a horizontal strip path. |
| Winding type | Suits colour coating lines where the strip wraps the coating rolls. |

What does the passivation coater apply?
A thin coating film of a trivalent chrome compound on the plate surface, to protect it against corrosion.
Which type should we use on a galvanizing line?
The vertical type is generally used in galvanizing lines. All three types, horizontal, vertical and winding, are applicable to colour coating lines.
Why do the applicator rolls not touch the strip?
Front and back applicator rolls run with a slight off strip contact, which improves the coating application and protects the surface.
How is the head accessed for cleaning?
The top side head is equipped with a quick opening mechanism.
What strip range does it handle?
Reference capability is up to around 2200 mm width, 3 mm thickness and 260 m/min, configured to your line.
What do you need to quote?
Strip width and thickness range, line speed, passivation chemistry and the strip path in your finishing section.
