Flat Bottom Silos
Grain storage silos, also called grain storage bins, are the efficient and economical way to hold grain: they protect it from insects and outside influences and make handling manageable.

What This Machine Does
Grain storage silos, also called grain storage bins, are the efficient and economical way to hold grain: they protect it from insects and outside influences and make handling manageable. The flat bottom range is where TITAN puts the largest volumes, from 1500 t up to 20000 t in a battery.
Key Benefits
- Largest capacity per tonne of steel in the silo range
- Protection from insects and outside influences compared with open or flat storage
- Mechanical handling in and out instead of loaders and labour
- Sweeper auger clears the floor automatically after gravity flow
- Bolted assembly ships flat packed and saves freight
Problems It Solves
- Flat storage exposes grain to insects, moisture and constant handling
- Labour cost of moving grain in and out of a warehouse
- Storage volume limited by building area rather than by height
- Difficulty emptying a large bin completely
Who It Is For
- Grain storage operators and traders
- Mills holding raw material
- Feed plants storing maize and soybean
- Cooperatives and collection points
Application Scenarios
- Bulk grain storage at terminals and trading yards
- Harvest intake buffer for mills and processors
- Long term storage of wheat, maize, paddy and beans
- Storage batteries extended as volumes grow
Technical Features
- Corrugated sidewall sheets from 275, 300 and 350 g/m2 hot dip galvanized plate
- Vertical stiffeners evenly applied to support vertical friction
- Connecting screw bolts with round galvanized steel washers and sealed holes
- Flat repair doors, outside ladder and ladder guard rings
- Sweeper auger for 360 degree floor cleanout after gravity flow
Flat Bottom Silos Model Table
Figures below are taken from the TITAN model sheets. Where a figure depends on the crop or the contamination level it is stated that way rather than averaged.
| Item | Specification |
|---|---|
| Construction | Bolted corrugated hot dip galvanized sheets with vertical stiffeners |
| Zinc coating | 275 g/m2, 300 g/m2 and 350 g/m2 plate, shell coating equivalent to 600 g/m2 |
| Steel grade | Structural galvanized steel S350GD |
| Diameter range | 2 m to 32 m, larger on request |
| Height to diameter ratio | Between 1:1.1 and 1:2 |
| Capacity per silo | 10 t to 15000 t |
| Battery capacity | 1500 t to 20000 t for flat bottom groups |
| Fittings | Repair door, outside ladder with guard rings, access door, sweeper |
How This Machine Is Built
Quality Control
- Zinc coating weight specified on the plate, not left as a general galvanized claim
- Connecting holes sealed with age resistant and waterproof daub belts of aviation grade
- High strength bolts used with round galvanized steel washers at every joint
- Roof to sidewall connection sealed to keep stored product away from moisture
- Erection supervised through the bolting sequence by TITAN engineers
Materials And Wear Parts
- Hot dip galvanized steel plate 275 to 350 g/m2
- Structural galvanized steel S350GD
- High strength bolts with galvanized washers
- Aviation grade waterproof daub belt
Customisation Options
- Diameter and height set by capacity and plot
- Base type chosen against the 12 m diameter rule
- Heat retaining layer for insulated storage
- Moisture and heat monitoring and control system
- Broken grain reduction device on the filling route
Use Guide
- Convert required tonnage into volume at the actual crop bulk density
- Decide the base type before the foundation is poured
- Fill centrally to keep the load on the shell symmetric
- Run the sweeper only after gravity flow has stopped
- Check seals, ladders and doors before each storage season
How It Compares With The Alternatives
| Warehouse storage | Sealed, mechanised and far denser per square metre of yard. |
|---|---|
| Hopper bottom silo | More tonnes stored per plot area, with a sweeper needed to finish the discharge. |
Flat Bottom Silos Questions
What is the capacity range?
1500 t to 20000 t for a flat bottom battery, with a single silo between 10 t and 15000 t.
How is the floor cleared?
A sweeper is installed at the bottom of the silo. It starts automatically once gravity flow has completely finished and cleans through 360 degrees.
Does the silo protect against insects?
A sealed steel shell keeps grain away from outside influence and makes management easier than flat storage. Treatment and aeration practice remain the operator's decision.
What shipping volume should I plan for?
Silos ship as flat packed sheets and fittings. Tell us the battery size and we will confirm the container count.
Can the silo store material other than grain?
The range includes powder and feed silos within the same construction family, designed to the stored material.
