Channels Are The Capacity Unit
Sorter capacity is counted in channels, not in horsepower. Each chute handles up to about 4 t/h, and the machine range scales from 64 channels to 640 channels. Published throughput for the TITAN range runs from 0.8 to 1.8 t/h on a 64 channel machine up to 7 to 20 t/h on a 640 channel machine, on a reference sample.

Read The Throughput Footnote
Those figures are quoted on a reference material, for example rice at roughly 2 percent contamination. Your own throughput moves with the share of defects: the more you ask the machine to reject, the slower it has to run to keep good product out of the reject stream. This is why a sample test before ordering is worth more than a specification sheet.
Size The Air Supply With The Sorter
Ejectors are pneumatic, so the compressor is part of the sorter decision. Chute machines work at 0.6 to 0.8 MPa and consume from under 2 m3/min on a 240 channel machine to about 5 m3/min on a 600 channel machine. In a food plant the air also has to be clean, which is where a water lubricated oil free compressor earns its price by removing oil carry over from the equation.

Belt Or Chute
A chute sorter drops product down an inclined channel and is the normal choice for free flowing grain and rice. A belt sorter carries the product on a belt so its speed at the scan line is predictable, which suits fragile, sticky or irregular material such as nuts, dried fruit and dehydrated vegetables. Belt widths of 300, 600 and 1200 mm are available.
What The Camera Can And Cannot See
Full colour and linear CCD cameras with FPGA processing separate on colour and shape. Material that colour alone cannot separate needs an infrared or NIR camera assembly, which is specified as an option rather than fitted as standard. Ask this question with your actual defect list in hand.
Operation And Support
Stored sorting modes cut changeover time between products. Machine status and parameters can be reached from a phone or tablet over wifi, 4G or a wired connection, and software and firmware upgrade over USB plus remote troubleshooting are part of the support package.
