Copper strand conductors butt welded with quartz glass crucibles in a cable plant

Cold Welding and Jointing Equipment for Wire and Cable Plants

From rod breakdown to the extruder, every break is a restart. SGT supplies the welders, dies and crucibles that keep the length continuous.

Industry Pain Points

What Goes Wrong on These Lines

  • A conductor break at the extruder means an insulation extrusion shutdown and a length of scrap conductor
  • Ceramic tube crucibles crack under sudden heat and hide the joint from the operator
  • Rod breakdown needs hydraulic force that a bench welder cannot give
  • Die wear on stranding and compacting lines drives die change frequency
From the Data

What the Published Figures Say

The published assessment of a single conductor break — counting copper material, insulation material and processing, lost working hours and electricity — puts the cost of one break at around ¥140 in copper alone at the prices quoted on the source data sheet.

How the Equipment Is Used Together

Solution

Continuous Drawing Without Breaks

A break is unavoidable. What is avoidable is threading the whole line again.

Solution

Copper to Aluminium Joining

Dissimilar non-ferrous metals joined in the solid phase, at the same electrical characteristics as the parent wire.

Solution

Stranded Conductor Jointing

A homogeneous pore-free and burr-free joint that goes into the extruder nozzle with only minor dressing.

Die and Tooling Programme

Machines are bought once. Dies are bought every month, and they decide what the machines actually produce.

FAQ

Wire and Cable Manufacturing Questions

Which SGT products suit wire and cable manufacturing

The categories listed on this page: Hydraulic Pressure Welders, Conductor Butt Welding Machines, Quartz Glass Tubes, Extrusion Dies and Tips, Diamond Drawing Dies. Each one links to the full product list with the published capacities.

How is a machine matched to our line

By the wire. Give the material, the smallest and largest diameter run, whether the section is round or rectangular, and the electrical supply. The machine model, the die set and the voltage build follow from those four answers.

Do you supply the consumables as well as the machines

Yes. Welding dies from 0.10 mm to 25.0 mm, drawing dies in tungsten carbide, PCD and nano diamond coating, extrusion dies and tips, and quartz glass welding crucibles are all made in house.

What lead time and packing should we expect

Packing is stated per model — a strong wooden or plywood case for the machines, carry cases for the portable welders. Lead time is quoted per order. TBC
