Extrusion Dies for Insulated Wire and Cable

Extrusion Dies for Insulated Wire and Cable

Compression dies engineered for concentricity so the insulation wall can be run thin.

Product Overview

Extrusion Dies for Insulated Wire and Cable

Extrusion dies set the outside diameter of the insulation and, together with the tip, decide how concentric the wall is. SGT compression dies are built for superior concentricity, which is what allows a thin insulating layer — minimising material usage and scrap. Process technology is heat treatment with a tungsten carbide or diamond insert.

Key Benefits

What This Model Gives You

Superior Concentricity

The property that lets the nominal wall come down without risking a thin spot.

Carbide or Diamond Insert

Long service life under harsh conditions, so the die holds size through the run.

Engineered per Application

Each customised die is engineered with the application in mind to ensure proper wire centering.

Less Compound per Metre

More throughput, less material usage and less scrap add up on the insulated wire and cable manufacturer's margin.

Application Scenarios

Where It Is Used

  • Building wire insulation lines
  • Automotive cable extrusion
  • Thin-wall and fine gauge insulation
  • Data and control cable

Industries

Problems It Solves

Why Buyers Specify It

  • Wall thickness set high only to cover eccentricity is compound paid for and never recovered
  • A die that opens up mid-run drifts the outside diameter out of spec
  • Off-the-shelf tooling ignores the compound and the line speed

Compared With Other Models

Extrusion tips guide and centre the conductor; extrusion dies set the insulation outside diameter. They are supplied as a matched pair. Carbide or diamond insert is specified where wear decides the tool life; stainless steel covers the larger sizes from 0.50 mm to 25.0 mm.

Use Guide

How It Is Set Up and Run

  1. Send conductor size, wall thickness, compound and line speed with the drawing.
  2. Fit the die and the matched tip together — neither works on its own.
  3. Set the vacuum and the draw-down ratio to the tooling, not to the previous set.
  4. Check concentricity on the first metres before committing the run.
Customisation and Supply

What Is Built to Order

Dies to Your Wire

Dies are manufactured for wire between 0.10 mm and 25.0 mm to suit round or profile wire and rod, to the customer's own specification, at -1% / +2% of the wire diameter.

Your Electrical Supply

On the motorised and hydraulic machines, operating voltage is built to the industrial supply of the destination country. State voltage, phase and frequency with the order.

Export Packing

Machines are packed in a strong wooden or plywood case as stated per model. Carry cases are supplied with the portable welders and the DA10.

FAQ

Extrusion Dies for Insulated Wire and Cable Questions

What insert materials are available

Tungsten carbide or diamond insert, with heat treatment as the process technology.

Can dies be made to our drawing

Yes. Each customised extrusion die is engineered with the specific application in mind.

How does the die reduce scrap

Better concentricity allows a thinner insulating layer, which minimises material usage and scrap.

Are tips supplied with the die

Tips are quoted alongside — carbide or diamond insert from 0.050 mm to 12.50 mm, stainless steel from 0.50 mm to 25.0 mm.

Quote the Extrusion Dies for Insulated Wire and Cable

Give the wire material, the diameter and the country the machine will run in, and the quote comes back with the die set and the voltage build already decided.
