What This Machine Does
The T7220B is a vertical fine boring machine used mainly to bore accurate holes in cylinder bodies and engine sleeves, and other accurate holes of the same class. It carries a table longitudinal and latitudinal moving device and a workpiece fast centring device, so the spindle is brought onto the bore centre quickly rather than dialled in by hand on every part. Both models bore to a maximum diameter of 200 mm and a maximum depth of 500 mm, with 710 mm of spindle travel, a spindle speed range of 53 to 840 rev/min and a spindle feed range of 0.05 to 0.20 mm/rev. The distance from the spindle axis to the carriage vertical plane is 315 mm. The T7220C adds milling: it fine bores the same accurate holes in cylinder bodies and engine sleeves and also mills the cylinder surface, using a 250 mm milling cutter head with 315 mm optional, and takes a maximum milling area of 850 x 250 mm or 780 x 315 mm. Both machines bore, mill, drill and ream.
Why Buyers Choose This Machine
- Bores accurate holes in cylinder bodies and engine sleeves to 200 mm diameter and 500 mm depth
- 710 mm of spindle travel covers deep bores without repositioning the workpiece
- Spindle speed range of 53 to 840 rev/min lets the operator match speed to bore diameter and material
- Fine spindle feed of 0.05 to 0.20 mm/rev for the finish cut on a precision bore
- Workpiece fast centring device removes the slow hand dial-up on every block
- T7220C option adds surface milling with a 250 mm cutter head, so boring and decking happen on one machine
- Table longitudinal and latitudinal movement reaches hole positions across the part without re-clamping
Where Vertical Fine Boring Machine T7220B Earns Its Place
Problems It Solves
- Accurate large-diameter holes cannot be held on a general-purpose drill press
- Deep bores need spindle travel that a short-stroke machine does not have
- Setting the bore centre by hand on every block wastes skilled operator time
- Sending the block to a second machine for decking loses the reference established at boring
- A single spindle speed forces a compromise across a range of bore diameters
Who It Is For
- Engine rebuild shops boring blocks and sleeves in house
- Diesel and industrial engine repair shops working to 200 mm bore diameters
- Machine shops offering precision hole boring as a subcontract service
- Distributors supplying engine reconditioning equipment into export markets
Application Scenarios
- Reboring engine cylinder bores up to 200 mm diameter
- Fine boring engine sleeve bores after a block has been sleeved
- Milling the cylinder surface on the T7220C after the bores are finished
- Boring other accurate holes in workpieces that need engine-grade hole accuracy
- Drilling and reaming holes in the same setup as the boring work

How It Compares With the Alternatives
| T7220B against T7220C | The T7220B fine bores; the T7220C does the same boring and also mills the cylinder surface with a 250 mm cutter head, so the block is decked without moving machines |
|---|---|
| XAIMC TX series vertical fine boring and milling machines | The TX series is offered in TX1500 TX2150 and TX2500 sizes for longer work; the T7220 is the fixed 200 mm bore 500 mm depth machine |
| Boring on a general-purpose vertical mill | A general mill can hold a boring head but does not have the 710 mm dedicated spindle travel and fine 0.05 to 0.20 mm/rev feed range this machine is built around |
Running the Machine
Step 1
Clamp the cylinder body or sleeve on the table
Step 2
Bring the spindle onto the bore centre with the fast centring device
Step 3
Set the table longitudinal and latitudinal position for the hole to be bored
Step 4
Select a spindle speed within 53 to 840 rev/min for the bore diameter and material
Step 5
Set the feed between 0.05 and 0.20 mm/rev, using the lower end for the finish pass
Step 6
Bore the hole within the 200 mm diameter and 500 mm depth rating and check size
Step 7
On the T7220C change to the milling head to face the cylinder surface
