Overview

What This Machine Does

Cutters are the consumable end of every boring and milling machine, and the part that decides whether a machine holds its size through a batch or has to be stopped and reset. XAIMC supplies cutters for the boring, milling and engine reconditioning machines it builds, so the cutter geometry, shank and seat match the machine and its tool holding rather than being adapted to it. That covers boring bits for cylinder and line boring work, valve seat and guide cutting bits, and milling cutters for surfacing and general machining. Because the cutters are supplied against the machine they run in, the buyer does not have to work out which generic insert fits a particular boring head, and a replacement ordered against a machine serial number arrives correct the first time. Cutters are stocked as a running list against the machines in the range, so consumables for an installed machine can be reordered rather than sourced again from scratch each time a shop runs out.

Key Benefits

Why Buyers Choose This Machine

  • Supplied against the XAIMC machine they run in so shank and seat fit without adaptation
  • Covers boring bits seat and guide cutting bits and milling cutters in one supply source
  • Reordering against a machine model removes the guesswork of matching generic tooling
  • Keeps an installed machine in production instead of stopped waiting for a cutter
  • Consistent cutter geometry between replacements so setup does not change with every reorder
  • Ordered with the machine or as a later consumable replenishment
Application

Where Boring and Milling Cutter Earns Its Place

Problems It Solves

  • A machine stopped for a worn cutter costs more than the cutter itself
  • Generic tooling that does not seat correctly in the boring head gives poor finish and short tool life
  • Working out which insert fits an installed machine wastes purchasing time on every reorder
  • Cutter geometry that changes between suppliers forces a new setup each time
  • Sourcing consumables from a different supplier than the machine leaves nobody accountable for the fit

Who It Is For

  • Workshops running XAIMC boring milling and engine reconditioning machines
  • Engine rebuilding shops consuming seat and guide cutting tooling
  • Machine shops restocking boring and milling consumables
  • Distributors holding spares and consumables for installed XAIMC machines
  • Maintenance buyers reordering against an existing machine installation

Application Scenarios

  • Replacing worn boring bits on cylinder and line boring work
  • Replacing valve seat and guide cutting bits on engine reconditioning machines
  • Restocking milling cutters for surfacing and general machining
  • Ordering a starting tooling package alongside a new machine
  • Holding a consumable stock so a machine is not stopped by a single worn cutter

Manufacturing and Supply

How It Is Built and What Can Be Changed

Operations Performed

  • Boring
  • Milling
  • Seat cutting
  • Guide machining

Quality Control

  • Cutting edge geometry inspected before dispatch
  • Shank and seat dimensions checked against the machine tool holding interface
  • Hardness and heat treatment checked on the cutter body
  • Cutters trial fitted to the nominated machine head where supplied with a machine

Customisation Options

  • Cutters specified against your machine model and tool holding interface
  • Cutter geometry selected for the workpiece material you machine
  • Tooling package made up to cover the operations you run on the machine
  • Repeat consumable quantities agreed so stock is replenished on a schedule
Comparison

How It Compares With the Alternatives

Generic cutting toolingGeneric inserts may cut but the seat and shank fit is where boring head accuracy and tool life are lost; cutters supplied against the machine seat correctly
Buying tooling from a separate supplierWhen the machine and the tooling come from different sources, nobody is accountable for the fit; here the cutter is quoted against the machine model
Running a cutter past its lifeA worn cutter costs finish size and spindle load long before it fails, so holding a consumable stock is cheaper than working a cutter out
Use Guide

Running the Machine

Step 1

Identify your machine model and tool holding interface before ordering

Step 2

Select the cutter type for the operation, boring seat cutting or milling

Step 3

Clean the tool seat and the cutter shank before fitting, since debris there causes run-out

Step 4

Fit and clamp the cutter to the specified torque and check run-out before cutting

Step 5

Take a test cut and check finish and size before running the batch

Step 6

Replace the cutter when finish or size starts to drift rather than when it fails

Step 7

Store cutters so the cutting edges are protected between uses

FAQ

Questions About Boring and Milling Cutter

Which cutters fit my machine?

Send us your machine model and serial number, or photographs of the tool holding, and we will identify the cutters from the list for that machine.

What types of cutter do you supply?

Boring bits for cylinder and line boring, valve seat and guide cutting bits for cylinder head work, and milling cutters for surfacing and general milling.

Can I order cutters with a new machine?

Yes. Tell us the work you will run on the machine and we will make up the tooling package and quote it with the machine.

Can I reorder consumables later?

Yes. Reorder against your machine model and the cutter reference from your original supply and we will ship the same item.

What cutter geometry should I choose?

It depends on the workpiece material and the operation. Tell us what you are cutting, cast iron aluminium or hardened seat inserts, and we will recommend.

How are cutters packed and shipped?

Cutters are packed to protect the cutting edges and shipped with a machine or as a separate consignment. FOB CFR and CIF terms are all available.

What are your payment terms?

30 percent by T/T on order and 70 percent before shipment, or an irrevocable L/C at sight.

Request a Quote on the Boring and Milling Cutter

Send us the work you need it to do, the voltage on your site and the port you ship to. We will come back with the model, the tooling and the lead time.
