Overview

What This Machine Does

The XM91 is a dense pole permanent magnetic chuck for surface grinding. The pole pitch is close, at 1.5+0.5mm, and that is the point of the design: with the magnetic lines packed tightly together the field is uniform across the face and short enough to grip a thin part that a coarse pole chuck would simply let go. Small and thin workpieces that cannot be clamped in a vise without bending are held flat and ground on the first pass. Magnetism is 100 N/cm2 or more across the range. Being permanent magnetic, the chuck needs no power supply and does not heat up, so the ground surface is not affected by chuck expansion. Nine and more sizes are listed from 175x100mm up to 400x200mm and beyond, all at 45mm height, with net weights from 6kg to 28kg. The chuck is used on flat grinding machines, spark machines and cutting machines.

Key Benefits

Why Buyers Choose This Machine

  • Dense pole pitch of 1.5+0.5mm grips thin and small parts that coarse pole chucks release
  • Uniform magnetism across the face holds the part flat so it grinds true on the first pass
  • Magnetism of 100 N/cm2 or more on every listed size
  • Permanent magnet design needs no power supply and no cable to the machine
  • No coil heating means the chuck does not expand and pull the ground surface out of flat
  • Size range from 175x100mm to 400x200mm and above suits most surface grinder tables
  • Works on flat grinding machines spark machines and cutting machines alike
Application

Where XM91 Dense Pole Magnetic Chuck for Grinding Mach Earns Its Place

Problems It Solves

  • Thin parts bend when clamped in a vise and spring back out of flat after grinding
  • Coarse pole chucks cannot hold small parts because too few poles are in contact
  • Clamps and stops obstruct the wheel and leave areas that cannot be ground
  • Electromagnetic chucks heat up and their expansion affects the ground surface
  • Losing a small part off the chuck during grinding damages the wheel and the work

Who It Is For

  • Grinding shops working on thin and small components
  • Toolrooms grinding shims plates and die components
  • EDM and cutting operations needing magnetic workholding
  • Distributors supplying magnetic chucks to machine shops

Application Scenarios

  • Surface grinding thin flat parts that cannot be clamped in a vise
  • Holding small workpieces on a flat grinding machine table
  • Workholding on spark erosion machines
  • Holding parts on cutting machines where clamps would obstruct the tool
  • Batch grinding of shims plates and thin blades

Comparison

How It Compares With the Alternatives

Magnetic lathe chuckThe round magnetic lathe chuck is rated up to 180 N/cm2 for lathe and cylindrical grinding; the XM91 is rectangular with dense poles for flat grinder tables and thin small parts
Coarse pole magnetic chuckA coarse pole chuck grips larger parts well but cannot hold small thin work because too few poles make contact; the 1.5+0.5mm pitch of the XM91 keeps the grip on small pieces
Clamping with a vise or clamps on the grinder tableClamping bends thin parts and obstructs the wheel; the magnetic chuck holds the part flat with the whole top surface clear
Use Guide

Running the Machine

Step 1

Clean the chuck face and the underside of the part before loading

Step 2

Place the part on the chuck and fit back stops where grinding forces would push it

Step 3

Switch the magnet on with the lever and check the part cannot be moved by hand

Step 4

Take light grinding passes on thin work so the part is not pushed off the poles

Step 5

Release the magnet with the lever before lifting the part

Step 6

Demagnetise the finished part where residual magnetism would attract swarf

Step 7

Keep the chuck face free of debris and dress it when it loses flatness

FAQ

Questions About XM91 Dense Pole Magnetic Chuck for Grinding

Which size should I order?

Choose by your grinder table. The listed sizes run from 175x100mm to 400x200mm and above, all at 45mm height, with weights from 6kg to 28kg. Send us your table size and we will confirm.

How strong is the hold?

Magnetism is 100 N/cm2 or more. Actual holding depends on the part contact area, its thickness and its surface finish.

Why dense poles?

A close polar distance of 1.5+0.5mm means more poles under a small part, so the magnetism is uniform and thin small workpieces are held securely.

Does it need electricity?

No. It is a permanent magnetic chuck switched by lever, so there is no supply to run and no heating that would affect accuracy.

What can it hold?

Magnetic materials such as steel and cast iron. Non-magnetic materials such as aluminium, brass and non-magnetic stainless grades cannot be held this way.

Can it be used on an EDM machine?

Yes. It is suitable for flat grinding machines, spark machines and cutting machines.

What are your payment and trade terms?

FOB CFR and CIF. Payment is 30 percent by T/T on order and 70 percent before shipment, or an irrevocable L/C at sight.
