Overview

What This Machine Does

The CQ6280 is the heavy duty end of the manual gap-bed range, built for work that a workshop lathe simply cannot hold. In both the CQ6280B and CQ6280C builds it swings 800mm over the bed, 1000mm in the gap and 560mm over the slide, and takes workpieces up to 2000mm or 3000mm long. That combination suits rolls, large shafts, flanged housings and heavy rotary parts that would otherwise have to be sent to a specialist shop. It performs internal and external turning, taper turning and end facing, drills, bores and broaches grooves, and cuts inch, metric, module and D.P. threads. Flat stock and irregular shapes are machined in the gap. The spindle has a through-hole bore for larger bar stock and both inch and metric systems are on the machine. Hand brake and foot brake versions are offered, and the machines run on 220V, 380V or 420V at 50Hz or 60Hz.

Key Benefits

Why Buyers Choose This Machine

  • 800mm swing over the bed and 1000mm in the gap covers roll and large flange work
  • Workpiece length options of 2000mm and 3000mm so long shafts stay in house
  • 560mm swing over the slide means large diameters can still be turned with the carriage in place
  • Gap takes flat stock and irregular shapes that no plain bed of this size would clear
  • Inch metric module and D.P. threading for heavy repair and gear work
  • Through-hole spindle bore for larger bar stock
  • Built for 220V 380V or 420V at 50Hz or 60Hz with hand or foot braking
Application

Where CQ6280 Universal Heavy Duty Horizontal Lathe Mac Earns Its Place

Problems It Solves

  • Large diameter parts are sent to specialist shops at high cost and long lead time
  • Long shafts cannot be supported on a lathe with insufficient centre distance
  • A plain bed of this size still will not clear 1000mm flange work
  • Heavy keyway work needs a separate slotting machine unless the lathe can broach grooves
  • Heavy repair threads in module and D.P. usually mean special change gear sets
  • Machines locked to one voltage cannot be redeployed between plant sites

Who It Is For

  • Heavy engineering and roll repair shops
  • Mine cement and steel plant maintenance departments
  • Shipyard and heavy fabrication workshops
  • Subcontractors taking in large diameter turning
  • Machinery importers supplying heavy industry in export markets

Application Scenarios

  • Turning and facing rolls large shafts and heavy flanged housings
  • Machining parts up to 3000mm long between centres
  • Facing and boring parts up to 1000mm diameter in the gap
  • Groove broaching keyways in heavy bores without a separate slotter
  • Cutting large module and D.P. threads on gear and screw components
  • Repair machining of worn heavy plant components on site-owned equipment

Manufacturing and Supply

How It Is Built and What Can Be Changed

Operations Performed

  • Turning
  • Taper turning
  • End facing
  • Drilling
  • Boring
  • Groove broaching
  • Thread cutting

Quality Control

  • Bed and gap alignment checked over the full 2000mm or 3000mm length
  • Spindle run-out and bearing preload measured on the assembled headstock
  • Carriage and slide travel checked against swing clearance at 800mm and 560mm
  • Thread positions exercised across inch metric module and D.P.
  • Brake and electrical circuit tested at the voltage specified on the order

Customisation Options

  • CQ6280B or CQ6280C build chosen with the order
  • Workpiece length specified as 2000mm or 3000mm
  • Hand brake or foot brake selected
  • Supply voltage of 220V 380V or 420V and 50Hz or 60Hz built to your site
  • Heavy chuck face plate and steady rest package quoted with the machine
Comparison

How It Compares With the Alternatives

Gap Bed Lathe Machine CS6240 CS6250B/C CS6266B/CThe CS gap bed frames are workshop sizes; the CQ6280 goes to 800mm over the bed and 1000mm in the gap for heavy industrial parts
Vertical turning latheA vertical machine suits large flat discs but cannot take a 3000mm shaft between centres the way the CQ6280 can
Subcontracting heavy turningBringing roll and large flange work in house removes the transport cost and the queue at the specialist shop
Lathe without groove broachingBroaching keyways on the lathe avoids re-fixturing a heavy part on a slotting machine
Use Guide

Running the Machine

Step 1

Install on a foundation designed for the machine weight and the length variant ordered

Step 2

Level the bed over its full length and recheck after the first weeks of operation

Step 3

Support long shafts with the steady rest before taking a roughing cut

Step 4

Keep the gap section fitted for shaft work and remove it only for large diameter parts

Step 5

Balance heavy irregular parts before running the spindle up to speed

Step 6

Select the thread system and pitch from the chart before engaging the lead screw

Step 7

Check brake function and lubrication at the start of each shift
