Choosing Pallet Netting Width Core and Roll Length

A netting specification has four parts: material, width, core diameter and roll length. Material is about the load. The other three are about your equipment and how you want the line to run.

Width

Jiamei supplies 30 cm, 50 cm and 76 cm. The width decides how many passes it takes to cover a load, and how much control you have over where the net sits.

• 30 cm for banding, top layer holds and roped corner bands. It is also the easiest width to control by hand.
• 50 cm is the general purpose width for most pallet heights. If you only want to stock one width, this is usually it.
• 76 cm covers a tall load in the fewest passes. On a high pallet that means less time on the wrapper and fewer overlaps.

Core Diameter

Netting is supplied on a 3 inch or 2 inch inner core to your request. Measure the mandrel on your wrapper before ordering. This is the single most common reason a correct product cannot be run.

Roll Length

Manual rolls run 500 m to 1000 m. Automatic rolls run 3000 m to 4000 m. Manual and automatic use are both available.

Longer is not automatically better. A 4000 m roll on a hand application is unmanageable, and a 500 m roll on a high volume automatic line means constant stopping. Match the roll to how the net is actually applied.

Working It Out From Your Load

A Practical Sequence

1. Measure the mandrel and fix the core diameter at 3 inch or 2 inch.
2. Measure the load height and pick the width that covers it in the number of passes you want.
3. Decide manual or automatic, which sets the roll length band.
4. Choose HDPE or MPE based on whether the load settles in transit.
5. Order a trial roll and count the passes it actually takes on your own wrapper.
