How It Works Step By Step
1Survey The ConductorCable diameter or busbar dimensions, how much clearance there is around it, and whether there is room to open a core.
2Choose The BodySquare split core for busbars, clamp on for round cable, ring split core for tight windows, and a Rogowski rope where nothing rigid will fit.
3Match The Output5 A and 1 A for panel instruments, 333 mV and mA for loggers, 0-5 V for analysers with voltage inputs.
4Fit And WireThe core closes around the existing conductor and the secondary is terminated with the circuit still live, following the site's own safety procedure.
5VerifyCompare the reading against a reference clamp before signing the metering point off.

What if the conductor is a bundle rather than a single cable?
That is the case for a flexible Rogowski coil. The rope closes around the whole bundle and the coil length is chosen independently of the current rating.
Can this be done on medium voltage?
Yes, with the LZCK/LMZK split core cast resin range for 10 kV and 35 kV ring main units.
Is live working safe?
Live work must follow the site's own electrical safety procedure and be carried out by a competent person. What the split core removes is the need to break the circuit, not the need for a safe system of work.
