MES Current Transformer
The MES series is the family most European, South African and Russian panel builders ask for by name. Ten frames, three fixing methods built into every body, and a hinged terminal cover that closes over the secondary the moment the wiring is done.
- Primary current5 A to 3000 A
- Secondary current5 A or 1 A
- Accuracy class0.5 / 1.0
- Rated burden2.5 VA, 5 VA, 10 VA, 15 VA
- Rated voltage0.72 / 3 kV
- Frequency50 / 60 Hz
- StandardsVDE 0414, BS 7626, IEC 44-1
- MountingPanel, DIN rail or busbar
Product Overview
The MES series of current transformer are convenient for mounting in many ways. Most current transformers need a special mounting; the MES series uses DIN rail mounting without a lot of extra time. The protective cover for the terminal block is used as a switching device with safety and speed.
Because the same terminal layout and cover repeat across every frame from MES-62 up to MES-145, a switchboard that mixes 100 A outgoing ways with a 2000 A incomer still wires up the same way on every unit.
Application Scenarios
- Current measurement, monitoring and protection for electrical wiring and equipment
- Current and power measurement for electric motors, lighting, air compressors, heating and ventilation systems, air conditioning equipment and automation control systems

- Relay protection devices
Technical Features
- Three built in fixing methods: panel, DIN rail and busbar
- Built in hinged terminal cover
- Compact design that fits space limited panels
- Primary current up to 3000 A

Questions Buyers Ask
Which MES frame do I need for a 400 A outgoing way?
MES-62/30 and MES-80/30 both cover 30 A to 400 A. Choose MES-62/30 when DIN rail width is tight and MES-80/30 when the busbar is wider. Send the busbar or cable dimension and the burden of your meter and we will confirm the frame.
Can the MES series be supplied in Class 0.2S for revenue metering?
The MES data published for this series is Class 0.5 and Class 1. Where Class 0.2S is required, the ABO High Accuracy range covers 3, 1, 0.5, 0.5S, 0.2 and 0.2S. Ask an engineer and we will quote the correct family.
Is the terminal cover sealable?
The MES body has a built in hinged terminal cover. For lead sealing and a transparent name plate window, the ABO series adds both.
What secondary burden should I specify?
Add the burden of the meter or relay plus the loop resistance of the secondary wiring. Standard MES burdens are 2.5, 5, 10 and 15 VA. Under burdening is safe; over burdening pushes the CT outside its class.

How To Calculate Current Transformer Burden
Burden is the single specification most often got wrong, and it is the one that quietly pushes a Class 0.5 transformer outside Class 0.5.

One installs without an outage. The other is more accurate for the same size. The decision is almost always made by the installation, not the datasheet.
