Overview

What This Machine Does

The GT modular vise is a precision workholding vise for milling machines and for inspection and finishing work. The body is made from high grade steel and carburised to a surface hardness of HRC58 to 62, so the bed and jaw faces resist the wear that opens up a vise and lets the part rock. Parallelism is held at 0.005mm per 100mm and squareness at 0.005mm, which is the accuracy a part needs if it is going to be machined on one face and measured from another. The vise is modular, so it can be mounted and combined in different positions on the table and still hold that accuracy in any position. Clamping is manual and quick to operate, which keeps the vise practical for setting single parts as well as short runs. Besides milling, it is used for precision measurement and inspection work and for holding parts on grinding, EDM and wire-cutting machines.

Key Benefits

Why Buyers Choose This Machine

  • Carburised body at HRC58 to 62 keeps jaw and bed faces from wearing out of accuracy
  • Parallelism of 0.005mm per 100mm holds the part flat enough to machine and then measure
  • Squareness of 0.005mm means a face machined in the vise is square to the reference face
  • Modular construction keeps the stated accuracy in any mounting position
  • Quick manual clamping suits single setups as well as short production runs
  • One vise serves milling grinding EDM wire-cutting and inspection work
Application

Where GT Modular Manual Clamping Milling Vise Earns Its Place

Problems It Solves

  • Soft vise bodies wear at the jaw and the part sits differently every setup
  • Parts lift off the bed during clamping so the machined face is not parallel
  • Out-of-square vises put the machined face at an angle to the reference face
  • Rebuilding a setup after moving the vise loses the accuracy you had
  • Separate vises for milling grinding and EDM duplicate cost and setup work

Who It Is For

  • Toolrooms and die shops needing accurate repeatable workholding
  • CNC milling shops running precision components
  • Inspection departments setting parts up for measurement
  • Distributors supplying precision machine tool accessories

Application Scenarios

  • Holding parts for precision milling on a machining centre
  • Workholding on surface and precision grinding machines
  • Clamping parts on EDM and wire-cutting machines
  • Precision measurement and inspection setups on a surface plate
  • Toolroom work where the same part is machined then checked

Comparison

How It Compares With the Alternatives

6 inch CNC hydraulic machine viseThe hydraulic vise clamps under power with consistent force for production; the GT modular vise is manually clamped and suits toolroom setups and inspection work
Standard cast machine viseA general purpose vise is not ground to 0.005mm parallelism and squareness, so the part has to be indicated true every time it is reset
Clamping directly to the machine tableTable clamps hold the part but give no reference faces; the GT vise provides ground parallel and square references you can machine and measure from
Use Guide

Running the Machine

Step 1

Clean the machine table and the vise base before mounting

Step 2

Mount the vise and indicate the fixed jaw parallel to the machine axis

Step 3

Set the part on parallels against the fixed jaw

Step 4

Clamp and tap the part down so it sits flat on the parallels

Step 5

Check the part for lift before cutting by trying the parallels for movement

Step 6

Keep the bed jaw faces and slideways clean of swarf between setups

Step 7

Oil the screw and slide to the maintenance schedule so clamping stays smooth

FAQ

Questions About GT Modular Manual Clamping Milling Vise

What accuracy does the vise hold?

Parallelism is 0.005mm per 100mm and squareness is 0.005mm. Those figures are held in any mounting position because of the modular construction.

How hard are the working faces?

The body is high grade steel carburised to a surface hardness of HRC58 to 62, which is what stops the jaw and bed faces wearing out of accuracy.

Can it be used on a grinder or a wire cutter?

Yes. The vise is used on precision grinding, EDM and wire-cutting machines as well as on milling machines, and for measurement and inspection setups.

What sizes are available?

Tell us your jaw width requirement and the largest part you hold and we will confirm the size available and quote it.

Are special jaws available?

Soft and special jaws can be quoted with the vise. Send us drawings of the parts you clamp and we will advise.

How is the vise packed for shipment?

Vises are packed individually and shipped from our storehouse in Xi'an. Tell us your quantity and port and we will quote FOB CFR or CIF.

What are your payment terms?

30 percent by T/T on order and 70 percent before shipment, or an irrevocable L/C at sight.
