What This Machine Does
The CZ1237 is a bench lathe built for shafts, sleeves, bushes and small disc work where a full-size floor lathe is more machine than the job needs. It swings 305mm over the bed, 173mm over the carriage and takes 940mm between centres, and the removable gap opens the swing to 440mm when a flange or pulley face is wider than the bed will otherwise clear. The bed ways are precision ground and hardened, and the spindle runs in precision roller bearings with a 36mm bore and an MT5 taper, so bar stock can be fed through the headstock instead of being held out on a long overhang. Headstock gears are ground and hardened steel, and twelve spindle speeds from 50 to 1200 r.p.m. are selected on lever change rather than by swapping belts. Threading covers 15 metric pitches from 0.25 to 7.5mm and 40 imperial pitches from 4 to 112 T.P.I., which is what lets one machine cut repair threads in either measuring system.
Why Buyers Choose This Machine
- Removable gap raises the swing from 305mm to 440mm so wide flanges and pulleys can be faced on a bench-size machine
- 36mm spindle bore with MT5 taper lets bar stock pass through the headstock instead of hanging out of the chuck
- Twelve lever-selected speeds from 50 to 1200 r.p.m. cover roughing in steel and finishing in brass without belt changes
- Metric and imperial thread ranges on one machine so repair work in either system does not need a second lathe
- Precision ground and hardened bed ways hold carriage alignment over the full 810mm saddle travel
- Ground and hardened headstock gears run quieter and wear slower than as-cut gears under interrupted cuts
- 1.1KW main motor and 0.04KW coolant pump keep the power and plumbing simple to wire and maintain
Where Bench Lathe Machine CZ1237 Earns Its Place
Problems It Solves
- Wide flange work will not clear the bed on a bench lathe without a gap, so the gap piece lifts the swing to 440mm
- Chucking long bar without a through bore causes overhang chatter and unsafe projection
- Belt-change speed selection wastes time between roughing and finishing passes
- Shops that see both metric and imperial threads otherwise need two machines or hand-cut threads
- Soft unground bed ways lose carriage accuracy early and turn taper into every long shaft
- Sending small repair turning outside costs more in downtime than the part is worth
Who It Is For
- Maintenance and repair workshops turning their own replacement parts
- Toolrooms needing a compact lathe for small shafts bushes and fixtures
- Agricultural and vehicle repair shops working in both metric and imperial threads
- Technical schools and training workshops teaching manual turning
- Distributors supplying small workshops in export markets
Application Scenarios
- Turning shafts and sleeves up to 940mm between centres in a maintenance workshop
- Facing and boring pulleys and flanges up to 440mm diameter using the removable gap
- Cutting replacement metric or imperial threads on damaged studs and spindles
- Bar work fed through the 36mm spindle bore for short repeat parts
- Toolroom work in a shop that has no space or floor loading for a full-size engine lathe
- Training and second-operation turning alongside larger production machines

How It Compares With the Alternatives
| Floor-standing engine lathe | A floor lathe takes more space and foundation; the CZ1237 sits on a bench and still gives 940mm between centres and a 440mm gap swing |
|---|---|
| Bench lathe without a removable gap | Without the gap the swing stops at 305mm, so wide flange and pulley faces have to go elsewhere |
| Belt-change bench lathe | Lever speed change across 12 speeds is faster between roughing and finishing than opening a cover and moving a belt |
| Hand-cut or die-cut threads | The feed box cuts 15 metric and 40 imperial pitches to length and depth, which hand dies cannot do on worn or non-standard sizes |
Running the Machine
Step 1
Level the machine on its bench and check the bed for twist before the first cut
Step 2
Fit the chuck to the MT5 spindle nose arrangement and check run-out
Step 3
Remove the gap piece only when the work needs more than 305mm swing and refit it for normal turning
Step 4
Select the spindle speed on the change levers to suit material and diameter
Step 5
Set the feed box for the feed rate or thread pitch from the plate and engage the lead screw for threading only
Step 6
Support long work between centres using the MT3 tailstock centre or the steady rest
Step 7
Keep the ways and lead screw clean and lubricated and check coolant flow at the start of each shift
