What Copper Stranded Wire Is For
Copper stranded wire solves the problem a solid conductor creates as soon as a cable has to bend: the cross-section you need makes it too stiff to use. Splitting the same cross-section across many fine strands keeps the current-carrying capacity and returns the flexibility. We produce it in bare copper and oxygen-free copper as well as in tin-copper, iron-copper and silver-copper alloy, soft annealed where the cable has to flex or hard where it has to hold form, and it can be plated in tin, silver or nickel when the termination or the environment calls for it.

How It Is Made And Checked
Manufacturing process
- Draw the copper or alloy to the required strand diameter.
- Anneal to soft temper where the cable has to flex, or leave hard where it has to hold form.
- Plate in tin, silver or nickel where specified, at 0.3 um to 2 um.
- Strand to the agreed construction, optionally mixing in tinsel wire.
- Test resistance, tensile strength and elongation, then pack with a loading report.
Quality control
- DC resistance measured on a resistance tester to confirm the conductor lands on the agreed value.
- Tensile testing for tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and elongation after fracture.
- Elongation rate measured during stretching to evaluate mechanical properties and mechanical strength.
- Salt spray testing where the finished cable will face a corrosive environment.
- A comprehensive loading report issued with every shipment.

Yes. Oxygen-free copper is one of our standard metal materials, alongside bare copper and the tin-copper, iron-copper and silver-copper alloys.
Can stranded wire be combined with tinsel wire?
Yes. Tinsel wire can be mixed with copper wires in the same conductor, mainly to increase the bending strength of the finished construction.
What special copper materials can you supply?
