Speaker Lead Wire For Drivers That Never Stop Moving

Lead-out wire for drivers and transducers, where the conductor moves every time the diaphragm does.

Overview

What Speaker Lead Wire Is And How It Is Built

A speaker lead is the one conductor in an audio product that never stops moving. It has to carry current, stay light, tolerate the full excursion of the diaphragm for the life of the driver, and solder cleanly onto a terminal at assembly speed. We build speaker lead wire on the same foil-over-fiber principle as our tinsel wire, so bending strength and tensile strength rise together instead of trading against each other, and we tune the foil material, the fiber core and the twist to the excursion and the resistance the driver is designed around.

Fit

Who Specifies This And Why

Who this range is for

  • Loudspeaker and driver manufacturers
  • In-ear monitor and headphone brands
  • Automotive audio suppliers
  • Contract manufacturers assembling transducers in volume

Problems it is specified to solve

  • Lead-out wires fatigue and open-circuit long before the driver itself wears out.
  • A heavier lead loads the diaphragm and colours how the driver behaves.
  • Resistance drift across a production lot shows up as channel imbalance.
  • Terminals get re-soldered during rework and the conductor will not take solder a second time.
Capability

What This Range Gives Your Cable

Core advantages

  • Foil-over-fiber construction gives swing performance a solid conductor of the same gauge cannot reach.
  • Low specific gravity keeps added mass off the moving assembly.
  • Plating options across tin, silver and nickel for repeatable soldering.
  • Fiber core chosen for the working temperature, from heat-resistant cotton yarn through aramid and liquid crystal fiber.

Application scenarios

  • Loudspeaker driver lead-out
  • In-ear monitor internal wiring
  • Headphone cable flex sections
  • Automotive speaker assemblies
Questions

Speaker Lead Wire: Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a conductor suitable as a speaker lead?

Swing performance and breaking load, not conductivity alone. Winding metal foil over a textile fiber core greatly improves bending strength and tensile strength over a traditional solid wire, which is why the construction is used where the conductor flexes continuously.

Which fiber core should a speaker lead use?

It depends on working temperature and required strength. Nylon and polyester cover ordinary conditions, aramid carries a melting point of more than 500 degrees Celsius with good abrasion resistance, and liquid crystal polymer adds bending and fatigue resistance with low moisture absorption.

Can you match a resistance value we already specify?

Yes. Conductor resistance is one of the performance requirements we customize against, along with outer diameter, tensile strength, high swing and solderability.
