Extremely Fine Copper Foil For Wound Conductors

Extremely fine copper foil, supplied as foil and used as the surface layer of our own tinsel wire.

Overview

What Precision Copper Foil Is And How It Is Built

Extremely fine copper foil is one of our main products and it is also the raw material behind the tinsel wire we build. Foil is what lets a conductor put its conductive cross-section on the outside, wound around a fiber core, instead of packing it into a solid centre. That is why a multi-layer copper foil design significantly reduces conductor resistance without growing the outer diameter, and why the same foil is available plated in tin, nickel or silver, or produced in tin-copper, iron-copper and silver-copper alloy.

Fit

Who Specifies This And Why

Who this range is for

  • Conductor and cable manufacturers winding their own tinsel constructions
  • Shielding and EMI component makers
  • Buyers of plated and alloy copper foil to a thickness spec
  • Developers prototyping fine flexible interconnects

Problems it is specified to solve

  • Conductive cross-section is needed at the surface of a conductor rather than at its core.
  • Foil has to stay continuous when wound at very small diameters without splitting.
  • Plating on foil must be even and free of particles, or the wound conductor carries defects along its whole length.
  • Shielding and contact applications need thin formable copper rather than wire.
Capability

What This Range Gives Your Cable

Core advantages

  • Extremely fine gauges, produced for winding at 0.04 mm to 0.40 mm conductor outer diameters.
  • Available bare, or plated in tin, silver or nickel from 0.3 um to 2 um.
  • Alloy foils in tin-copper, iron-copper and silver-copper.
  • Coating uniform and continuous with strong adhesion and no discoloration, particles or mechanical damage.

Application scenarios

  • Foil layer in tinsel wire construction
  • EMI shielding layers
  • Flexible interconnect and contact parts
  • Multi-layer conductor designs targeting low resistance
Questions

Precision Copper Foil: Frequently Asked Questions

How does copper foil lower conductor resistance?

By letting the conductor be built as multiple foil layers wound over a core rather than as one solid section. The multi-layer copper foil design together with multi-strand twisting significantly reduces conductor resistance, and improves breaking load and swing performance at the same time.

Which foil materials are available?

Bare copper foil, tin-plated copper foil, nickel-plated copper foil, silver-plated copper foil, tin-copper alloy foil, iron-copper alloy foil and silver-copper alloy foil.

What plating thickness can you hold?

The coating thickness is customizable to the performance requirement, within a range of roughly 0.3 um to 2 um.
