Heater Wire And High-Resistance Flexible Elements

High-resistance conductors for heating elements, built on the same foil-over-fiber and alloy capability as our signal conductors.

Overview

What Heater Wire Is And How It Is Built

Heating products are specified backwards from most conductors: the requirement is resistance, held accurately, in a conductor that still has to be flexible enough to be sewn, wound or routed into a finished product. Heating products with high resistance requirements are also a characteristic of our tinsel wire, which can meet all aspects of that performance and is widely used in heating wires. Where a resistance alloy is the better answer, we work in nickel-chromium, nickel-iron and copper-nickel alloy, better known as constantan.

Fit

Who Specifies This And Why

Who this range is for

  • Heating pad, blanket and seat heater manufacturers
  • Heated apparel and wearable developers
  • Appliance makers specifying flexible heating elements
  • Engineers who need a resistance value inside a flexible conductor

Problems it is specified to solve

  • Resistance has to land on a value and stay there across a production lot, or the element runs hot or cold.
  • A heating conductor stiff enough to hold resistance is often too stiff to be sewn into a garment or wound into a pad.
  • Elements operating hot need the conductor and its core to survive the working temperature, not just the current.
  • Corrosion at the termination changes resistance over time.
Capability

What This Range Gives Your Cable

Core advantages

  • Tinsel wire construction meets high resistance requirements while staying flexible.
  • Resistance alloys available in nickel-chromium, nickel-iron and copper-nickel alloy (constantan).
  • High temperature fiber cores including aramid, glass fiber and heat-resistant cotton yarn.
  • DC resistance verified on our own tester before the lot ships.

Application scenarios

  • Heated seat and heating pad elements
  • Heated apparel and gloves
  • Flexible heating elements in appliances
  • Conductive textile heating panels
Questions

Heater Wire: Frequently Asked Questions

Can tinsel wire really be used as a heating conductor?

Yes. Heating products with high resistance requirements are one of the characteristics of our tinsel wire. It meets those performance aspects and is widely used in heating wires.

Which alloys do you use for resistance heating?

Nickel-chromium alloy, nickel-iron alloy and copper-nickel alloy, which is also known as constantan. All three are part of our standard metal material range.

How is resistance verified?

On a DC resistance tester, which measures the resistance parameters of the wire conductor precisely. It is the key instrument for confirming power safety, product quality and equipment reliability.
