Carrier Tape Cover Tape and Reels Specified as One System
Carrier tape and reel systems designed to package, protect and present electronic components to pick and place machines for automatic handling, with material and thickness matched to the specific device and application
Carrier tape and reel systems designed to package, protect and present electronic components to pick and place machines for automatic handling, with material and thickness matched to the specific device and application
Embossed and paper carrier tape, cover tape and plastic reels are made in the same plant, which is why they are quoted as a set rather than three separate items that meet for the first time at your feeder.

View DetailsWho Specifies Tape and Reel
- Semiconductor and component makers packaging finished devices for export
- EMS and SMT assembly plants requiring custom tape for high-speed pick and place lines
- IC distributors re-packing bulk components into standardized reels for resale
- Connector and relay manufacturers needing reliable tape for leaded or surface mount devices
- LED and power module producers requiring tape that supports heavy or irregularly shaped components

What Tape and Reel Is There to Prevent
- Components shift or fall out of the tape pocket during transit or handling due to poor pocket depth or tape stiffness
- Tape fails to maintain ESD protection over time, especially after repeated handling or wiping
- Tape profile does not match the device body size or lead configuration, causing misfeed or machine stoppage
- Reel diameter or core size does not match the customer’s pick and place machine or feeder system
- Carrier tape is too rigid or too flexible for the required feeding speed and machine pressure
- Standard tape widths or cavity sizes do not support a new or custom device package
How the Tape and Reel Line Is Built

- Carrier tape and reel designed for each specific device profile, with material and thickness selected to match the component and application
- Five materials in stock: PVC, PS / HIPS, PC, PETG, ABS, each selected for clarity, rigidity, and cost
- Tape width, cavity size, pocket depth, and reel core diameter customised to the device and machine requirements
- Anti-static by additive or surface treatment, with ESD protection maintained over time and handling
- Reels available in standard and custom diameters, with core sizes matching common feeder systems
- MOQ of 10000 pieces, with 5-15 day lead time for standard profiles and 4-6 weeks for new tooling
- Free samples of 20-50 reels available after tooling trial, with full profile validation
Where Tape and Reel Ends Up
Packaging a new QFN device for shipment from a semiconductor plant to an overseas SMT line
Re-packing bulk TO-220 transistors into reels for use in an automated assembly line
Supplying custom carrier tape for a relay with non-standard lead spacing and body height
Replacing a jamming tape profile on a running SMT line without changing the device or machine
Producing low-cost carrier tape for a high-volume LED module with a unique footprint

Read GuideTape and Reel Questions
Can you make carrier tape for a device you have not produced before?
Yes. Send a device drawing, a tape profile drawing, or a physical sample. We measure the profile and build the tooling. New tooling takes 4-6 weeks for standard profiles, 10-12 weeks for complex or high-volume tools.
What is the minimum order quantity?
10000 pieces on standard profiles. The setup cost for extrusion and tooling requires a minimum run to be economical.
Which material is best for high clarity and low cost?
PS / HIPS offers high clarity and low cost. PVC is used when higher rigidity or ESD performance is needed. PC and PETG are used for high-temperature or high-stress applications.
Do you supply the cover tape and reels?
Yes. Cover tape is matched to the carrier tape profile and material. Reels are supplied with standard or custom core sizes and diameters to match the customer’s feeder system.
Are the tapes RoHS compliant?
Yes. All materials used meet RoHS requirements. The quality management system is ISO14001 and all products comply with Sony environmental protection standards.
How fast can a repeat order ship?
5-15 days depending on quantity, for a profile already tooled. Weekly capacity is 50000 pcs and monthly output of finished products is 150 tons.
Can you adjust the pocket depth or cavity size?
Yes. Pocket depth and cavity size are customised to the device body height and lead configuration to prevent shifting or misfeed.
