What The Two Digits Mean
The first digit is protection against solids and the second against water. IP20 means no protection against water at all. IP65 means protection against water jets. IP67 means the product can withstand temporary immersion, which is the level used on the LUK wall washer and neon flex range.
IP20 Is Not A Defect
An IP20 strip is the right answer indoors, in a dry profile, where an encapsulated strip would just cost more and run hotter. The 2216 and 2110 strips are IP20 because they are designed for shelf and cabinet work behind a diffuser.
Where IP67 Is Genuinely Required
Condensation in a chilled case, cleaning water in a food area, and any permanent exterior position. The 800 LED 2835 build, the 5050 colour strip, the wall washers and the whole neon flex range are available in IP67 for exactly these positions.

The Rating Ends At The First Cut
This is the failure everybody repeats. A sealed strip cut on site and left open is an IP20 strip with a silicone jacket. Every cut needs a proper end cap, and every join needs a sealed connector, or the rating no longer applies to the installed product.

Choosing Between IP65 And IP67 On A Luminaire
On finished luminaires the same logic applies to the housing. The LUK flood lights are offered at IP65 for normal exposure and IP66 on the COB version for pressure washing and coastal positions, and the street lights at IP65 or IP66.
