Machined aluminium saddle tube clamp with a curved seat and four counterbored fixing holes

Machined aluminium saddle tube clamp with a curved seat and four counterbored fixing holes.

Aluminium Clamping Components

Aluminium Tube Clamp Saddle Type

A curved saddle block that clamps a round tube down onto a flat surface with four fasteners.

Aluminium Alloy
Made to your drawing. Every dimension below that depends on your print is marked To drawing rather than given a number that would only be a guess.
Overview

What This Part Does

The saddle clamp is milled from solid aluminium with a radiused seat on the underside and four counterbored holes through the body. It sits over a round tube and pulls it down against a base plate or a frame member. Because the seat is machined rather than formed, the radius matches your tube diameter and the tube is gripped along the whole arc instead of on two lines of contact, which is what stops it printing a mark into a soft or anodised tube.

Key Benefits

Why It Is Made This Way

  • Full-arc contactThe machined radius spreads clamping load around the tube instead of pinching it at two points.
  • Counterbored fastenersScrew heads sit below the top face, so nothing snags on a passing hand or a moving guard.
  • Made to your tube diameterThe seat radius is cut to your print, so a nominal tube size that is not quite nominal is still gripped properly.
  • Machined from solidNo casting porosity to find after the part is already on the line.
Problems It Solves

What Goes Wrong Without It

  • Stock clamps mark the tubeA clamp whose radius is not your radius touches on two lines and leaves a witness mark on anodised or polished tube.
  • Fastener heads stand proudWithout counterbores the screw heads catch on guards, cables and hands.
  • The clamp slips under loadTwo-line contact gives far less friction than full-arc contact at the same bolt torque.
Application Scenarios

Where It Is Used

  • Clamping a round tube down onto a machine frame or base plate
  • Holding a guide rail or shaft in a fixed position on an assembly bench
  • Mounting a tubular arm where the clamp has to be released and repositioned
  • Securing tube on a production fixture where the part must not be marked
Who It Is For

Who Specifies It

Machine builders, fixture designers and maintenance engineers who need a clamp cut for one specific tube diameter rather than a compromise from a catalogue.

    Comparison

    How It Compares

Against a split-block clamp the saddle type is simpler and cheaper and works where the tube can be dropped in from above. Where the tube is captive and has to be clamped in place, the split type is the right choice. Against a formed sheet-metal clip, the machined saddle holds far more load and does not relax.

    Questions

Questions About The Aluminium Tube Clamp Saddle Type

Do you make the matching bottom half of the clamp?
Yes. Saddle and base can be machined as a matched pair from the same drawing so the two radii line up and the split line closes evenly.
Can the seat take a liner?
Yes. The seat can be cut oversize by the liner thickness if you are fitting rubber or a plastic insert to protect the tube. Give the liner thickness on the print.
What clamping force will it hold?
That depends on your fastener size, torque and the friction pair, so it is confirmed per project rather than quoted as a general figure.
Can I have it anodised to match my frame?
Anodising is available on request. Specify the colour and the class on the drawing, and note that anodising adds thickness on the seat radius.
