Fixtures that hold the part the same way every time so the process result stops depending on the operator.
A production fixture exists to take variation out of a process. It locates the workpiece, clamps it without distorting it, and presents it to the tool, the welder or the assembler in the same position on the thousandth part as on the first. This is the work Hongpin describes as its focus: non-standard fixtures, designed around one customer's part and one customer's process.
Each stage exists to move a decision earlier, where changing it is still cheap.
What is being located, what is being done to it, and which features on the part are actually the datums.
Which surfaces locate, which clamp, and where the part is allowed to move as it is loaded.
Drawings go back to you before anything is cut, because the cheapest time to move a locator is on paper.
Machined from stainless steel, aluminium alloy or engineering plastic depending on duty and weight.
First-article parts are checked in the fixture and the locators are corrected where needed.
The fixture ships with its drawing so wear items can be remade later.

A turned sleeve that carries a shaft, sets the running clearance and takes the wear instead of the housing.

View The PartA workpiece drawing and a description of the operation is enough to start. If the locating scheme is the hard part, that is worth working through before anything is cut.
