Product Overview

Plastic layer pad is made from polypropylene plastic sheet with four sides and corners sealed or welded. It is used as a protective layer between two objects or surfaces, providing cushioning and insulation against vibration, noise, heat and other environmental factors. It also reduces friction between moving parts, protects delicate surfaces from damage and gives a softer surface to walk on.

It is a versatile material in industrial and commercial settings, and is widely applied in the beverage industry as a divider sheet for moving glass bottles and beverage and food containers, which greatly improves stacking efficiency and saves packaging cost.

Layer pads are also used in construction and flooring, protecting floors during construction or renovation so that surfaces stay undamaged from heavy equipment, tools and foot traffic.

Key Benefits

Multiple Colours Available

Extruded in the colour your line uses for coding.

Printable Surface

The surface takes print for branding or handling instructions.

Rounded Corners and Sealed Edges

All four sides and corners are sealed or welded so there are no sharp edges and no open flutes.

Smooth Surface and Light Weight

Easy to place by hand or by layer picker.

Reusable and Washable

Pads go back through the loop and can be washed between cycles.

Chemical Resistance

Unaffected by the washing chemicals used in beverage plants.

Applications and Fit

Manufacturing Process

  1. Raw Material High impact co-polymer polypropylene resin, with anti-static, conductive, UV or flame retardant masterbatch added at the extruder when a modified grade is ordered.
  2. Extrusion The sheet is extruded on one of six production lines to the ordered thickness and weight per square metre. Printing grade stock is corona treated on both surfaces during extrusion.
  3. Cutting and Creasing Sheets are cut to the ordered panel size and creased where the part has to fold.
  4. Fabrication Boxes, totes, trays, sleeves and layer pads are formed by welding, riveting or sealing the edges and corners, and accessories are fitted.
  5. Inspection and Packing Finished goods are inspected, then packed in plastic shrink film on wooden pallets or to the packing method the customer specifies.

100% Inspection Before Delivery

Quality control is carried out inside our own factory and every product is 100% tested before it is released for delivery.

Extrusion Line Control

Thickness, weight per square metre, flute geometry and colour are set and checked on the extrusion line so each sheet matches the ordered specification.

Fabrication Check

Cut sizes, crease positions, welded corners and sealed edges are checked against the approved sample before packing.

Certifications and Standards

Operations run to an ISO 9001:2000 quality management system. Container resin can be specified as ESD safe or flame retardant meeting UL 94 HB flame retardant grade. Where food contact packing is required, 100% new virgin materials are used. We do not publish certificates we have not been given — ask and we will send what applies to your order.

Use Guide

  1. Give us the pallet footprint and we cut the pad to it, rather than you trimming a standard sheet.
  2. Specify sealed or welded edges when the pad runs in a food or beverage plant so there are no open flutes to trap liquid.
  3. Choose a heavier weight per square metre where a layer picker grabs the pad by its edge.
  4. Anti-static, conductive, UV resistant and flame retardant grades are available for the pad as well as for plain sheet.
