How Corrugated Plastic Sheet Is Extruded and Fabricated
From polypropylene resin to a finished container in one plant
Raw Material
The sheet is manufactured from a high impact co-polymer polypropylene resin. Where a modified grade is ordered, anti-static, conductive, UV or flame retardant masterbatch is added at the extruder so the property is compounded into the material rather than applied to the finished sheet.
Extrusion
The sheet is extruded to the ordered thickness and weight per square metre on one of six production lines. Printing grade stock is corona treated on both surfaces during extrusion to a 45 dyne level.
Thickness, weight per square metre, flute geometry and colour are set and checked on the line, which is why grade and specification have to be decided before production rather than after.
Cutting and Creasing
Sheets are cut to the ordered panel size and creased where the part has to fold. Standard size is 2440 × 1220 mm and any other size is cut to request.
Fabrication
Boxes, totes, trays, sleeves and layer pads are formed by welding, riveting or sealing edges and corners, and accessories are fitted. Layer pads have all four sides and corners sealed or welded with rounded corners.
Inspection and Packing
Quality control runs to an ISO 9001:2000 system inside our own factory, and every product is 100% tested before delivery. Cut sizes, crease positions, welded corners and sealed edges are checked against the approved sample.
Finished goods are packed in plastic shrink film on wooden pallets, or by the packing method the customer specifies.
Why It Matters That It Is One Plant
Standard and modified grades run on the same six lines, and fabrication happens in the same facility. A change from standard to anti-static grade, or from sheet to a finished container, does not mean changing supplier.
