Overview

What This Machine Does

The Y3150K cuts cylindrical spur and helical gears, worm gears and sprockets, and it is built to suit both large batch and single-piece production. That matters in practice because a shop rarely runs only one or the other: the same machine has to cut a production run of gears one week and a one-off replacement the next. Rigidity is good and working accuracy is held, and the machine is straightforward to operate and maintain, which is what keeps a gear shop running without a specialist on site. It can cut with forward and backward cutting, and takes either axial or radial feed, so the approach is chosen to suit the gear rather than being fixed by the machine. Radial feed is what you use for worm gear work; axial feed is the normal approach for spur and helical gears. A Siemens CNC system can be fitted at the customer's request, and with it the machine will cut crown gears and slightly tapered gears, which a mechanically geared hobber cannot produce.

Key Benefits

Why Buyers Choose This Machine

  • Cuts cylindrical spur and helical gears worm gears and sprockets on one machine
  • Suits both large batch and single-piece production so a jobbing gear shop is not limited
  • Forward and backward cutting and a choice of axial or radial feed to suit the gear being cut
  • Radial feed available for worm gear work which axial-only machines cannot do properly
  • Good rigidity and working accuracy maintained under cutting load
  • Simple to operate and maintain which keeps the machine running without specialist support
  • Optional Siemens CNC system adds crown gear and slightly tapered gear cutting
Application

Where Y3150K Minitype Gear Hobber Machine Earns Its Place

Problems It Solves

  • A machine fixed to axial feed cannot cut worm gears properly
  • Setting up a production hobber for a one-off replacement gear is uneconomic on the wrong machine
  • Poor rigidity under hobbing load shows up as tooth form error on the finished gear
  • Crown and slightly tapered gears cannot be produced on a purely mechanical hobber
  • Complex machines need specialist maintenance a gear shop cannot always get
  • Sending gear work out on lead times you cannot control stalls a repair job

Who It Is For

  • Gearbox and transmission manufacturers
  • Gear cutting subcontract shops taking mixed work
  • Machinery repair shops cutting replacement gears
  • Manufacturers of worm gear sets and sprockets
  • Distributors supplying gear hobbing machines to general engineering

Application Scenarios

  • Batch production of cylindrical spur gears for a gearbox line
  • Cutting helical gears for drive assemblies
  • Worm gear cutting using radial feed
  • Sprocket cutting for chain drives
  • Single-piece replacement gear cutting in a repair shop
  • Crown and slightly tapered gear work where the Siemens CNC system is fitted

Manufacturing and Supply

How It Is Built and What Can Be Changed

Operations Performed

  • Gear hobbing
  • Spur gear cutting
  • Helical gear cutting
  • Worm gear cutting
  • Sprocket cutting

Quality Control

  • Indexing accuracy checked against a test gear before the machine is released
  • Hob slide and table rigidity checked under a full-depth cutting load
  • Axial and radial feed functions both run and verified
  • Forward and backward cutting modes confirmed through a test cut
  • Test gear cut and tooth form inspected before packing

Customisation Options

  • Siemens CNC system fitted according to the user's request
  • Supply voltage phase and frequency built for your market
  • Hob and workholding tooling specified for your gear module and bore sizes
  • Machine configured for crown and slightly tapered gear work where required
  • Manual and control markings prepared in your working language
Comparison

How It Compares With the Alternatives

Y31125E gear hobbing machineThe Y31125E is the wide bed machine for larger gears with a ground worm gear indexing table; the Y3150K is the compact machine for smaller work
YB3150E and YB3180 gear hobbersThose add climb hobbing and automatic stop for multi-machine working; the Y3150K is the simpler machine covering the same gear types
The machine without the Siemens CNC optionWithout CNC the machine cuts spur helical worm and sprocket work; with the Siemens system fitted it also cuts crown and slightly tapered gears
Sending gear cutting out to a subcontractorCutting in house removes the lead time you cannot control, which is what matters most on a repair or breakdown gear
Use Guide

Running the Machine

Step 1

Mount the hob and check its run-out before setting up the blank

Step 2

Set the workholding for the gear blank and check it runs true

Step 3

Set the machine for the gear you are cutting, spur helical worm or sprocket

Step 4

Choose axial feed for spur and helical work or radial feed for worm gears

Step 5

Take a first cut at reduced depth and check tooth form and span before continuing

Step 6

Run the gear to full depth with coolant on the cutting contact

Step 7

Check the finished gear over pins or by span measurement before starting the batch

FAQ

Questions About Y3150K Minitype Gear Hobber Machine

What gear types will it cut?

Cylindrical spur and helical gears, worm gears and sprockets. Send us the module, tooth count and diameter of your gears and we will confirm they sit within the machine's range.

Can it cut crown or tapered gears?

With the Siemens CNC system fitted, yes, it cuts crown gears and slightly tapered gears. Specify the CNC system when you enquire, as it is fitted at build according to the user's request.

What is the difference between axial and radial feed?

Axial feed is the normal approach for spur and helical gears, where the hob traverses along the gear face. Radial feed brings the hob in towards the centre and is what you use for worm gear work.

Is it suitable for one-off work or only production?

Both. The machine is intended for large batch as well as single production, which is why it suits repair shops and subcontractors as well as gearbox manufacturers.

What accuracy will we get on the gear?

That depends on the hob, the blank, the material and the setup. Send us the gear drawing with the quality grade you need and we will confirm before you order.

Are hobs supplied with the machine?

Hob and workholding tooling are specified against your gear module and bore sizes. Tell us what you cut and we will quote them with the machine.

What are your payment and trade terms?

FOB CFR and CIF. Payment is 30 percent by T/T on order and 70 percent before shipment, or an irrevocable L/C at sight.
