Overview

What This Machine Does

The Z5025 and Z5025B are round column vertical drilling machines for holes up to 25 mm diameter. Speeds are changed through gears rather than belts, so the eight speeds across the 100 to 2900 r/min range are selected at a lever instead of by opening a guard and moving a belt. That top speed matters on small diameter drills in steel, where too little surface speed simply rubs the drill. The MT3 spindle has 150 mm of travel and sits 225 mm from the column generating line. Z5025 has a 440 mm diameter worktable with 560 mm of table travel and a maximum spindle nose to base distance of 1670 mm; Z5025B is the shorter bench form with 550 mm from spindle nose to base. Both carry a coolant system and a work lamp, and an automatic tool releasing device means the taper tool comes out without a drift and a hammer. The machines drill counterbore ream tap and spot face, for single pieces small batches and volume work.

Key Benefits

Why Buyers Choose This Machine

  • Gear change across eight speeds from 100 to 2900 r/min so speed is set at a lever not by moving belts
  • 2900 r/min top speed keeps small drills cutting instead of rubbing in steel
  • Automatic tool releasing device changes MT3 tooling without a drift and hammer
  • Coolant system fitted as standard so hole quality and drill life do not depend on hand oiling
  • Work lamp on the machine puts light where the drill meets the part
  • One machine drills counterbores reams taps and spot faces so the part is finished in one setup
  • Z5025 floor version and Z5025B short version cover both floor and bench installations
Application

Where Pillar Type Vertical Drilling Machine Z5025 and Earns Its Place

Problems It Solves

  • Belt change machines cost time every time the drill diameter changes
  • Low top speeds burn small diameter drills instead of cutting
  • Knocking taper tooling out with a drift damages the spindle taper over time
  • Dry drilling shortens drill life and leaves torn hole walls
  • Moving parts between separate drilling reaming and tapping stations adds handling and error

Who It Is For

  • Jobbing machine shops and toolrooms
  • Fabrication and sheet metal shops finishing machined parts
  • Maintenance departments needing a general purpose drilling machine
  • Technical schools and training workshops
  • Distributors supplying general workshop drilling machines

Application Scenarios

  • General hole drilling up to 25 mm in a jobbing machine shop
  • Counterboring and spot facing bolt holes on machined plates and flanges
  • Reaming pre-drilled holes to size on fixture components
  • Tapping small and medium threads on the same setup as the drilled hole
  • Small batch and repeat production of drilled parts in a fabrication shop
  • Toolroom and maintenance work where one drilling machine covers everything

Comparison

How It Compares With the Alternatives

Pillar drilling machine Z5030 to Z5050The larger round column machines take 30 to 50 mm drills and add a powered table lift; Z5025 stops at 25 mm but reaches 2900 r/min which suits small diameter work better
Box type vertical drilling machine Z5140A and aboveThe square column machines are heavier and take 40 to 80 mm drills for production work; the Z5025 is the lighter general machine for a toolroom or a small shop
Bench top hobby drill pressA hobby press changes speed by belt and has no coolant or automatic tool release; the Z5025 is a gear head industrial machine built for continuous shop use
Use Guide

Running the Machine

Step 1

Bolt the machine to a level floor or bench and connect the supply and coolant

Step 2

Select the gear speed for your drill diameter high for small drills low near 25 mm

Step 3

Fit the tool in the MT3 spindle and check the automatic release is engaged

Step 4

Clamp the part to the table or in a vice never hold it by hand

Step 5

Set the table height using the 560 mm of table travel so the spindle stroke covers the hole

Step 6

Start the coolant before the drill enters and feed evenly through the hole

Step 7

Change to the counterbore reamer or tap without moving the part to finish the hole
