What This Machine Does
The C6180A is a large horizontal manual lathe for internal and external turning, taper turning, end facing and general revolution work, with metric, inch, module and pitch threading plus drilling, reaming, tapping and broaching. It swings 830mm over the bed and 540mm over the cross slide, and distance between the two tops can be specified at 1500mm, 2000mm, 3000mm or 4000mm, so the same swing can be bought short for flanges or long for shafts. The C6180A uses the bed and foot post structure shared with the C6163B, C6263B and C6280A, with a bed 560mm wide, and auto-feeding for the upper tool post is optional on this build. The related C6180 uses an integral bed 600mm wide and carries the upper tool post auto-feed as standard, which is worth knowing when you are deciding between them: the integral bed is the stiffer structure, the foot post build is the more flexible one to install.
Why Buyers Choose This Machine
- 830mm swing over the bed and 540mm over the cross slide for large diameter turning
- Centre distance specified at 1500mm 2000mm 3000mm or 4000mm to match your longest part
- Metric inch module and pitch threading on one machine
- Drilling reaming tapping and broaching alongside turning so heavy parts are not re-fixtured
- Bed and foot post structure on a 560mm wide bed simplifies installation of a long machine
- Optional auto-feeding for the upper tool post where repeat facing cuts are run
- Shares its structure with C6163B C6263B and C6280A so spares and practice carry across the range
Where Horizontal Manual Lathe Machine C6180A Earns Its Place
Problems It Solves
- Long shafts exceed the centre distance of ordinary workshop lathes
- Large diameter housings have to be subcontracted when swing is limited
- Re-fixturing a heavy part for drilling tapping or broaching costs hours and loses alignment
- Module and pitch threads on large components need a machine that carries those charts
- Buying a fixed centre distance means paying for length you never use or refusing longer jobs
- Manual upper tool post feeding is slow and inconsistent on repeated facing cuts
Who It Is For
- Heavy engineering shops turning large shafts and housings
- Plant maintenance departments in mining cement and power generation
- Shipyard and pump repair workshops
- Subcontract machine shops taking in oversized turning
- Importers equipping heavy industry customers
Application Scenarios
- Turning long shafts up to 4000mm between centres
- Facing and boring flanges and housings up to 830mm diameter
- Threading heavy screws and gear components in module or pitch systems
- Drilling reaming and tapping holes in parts already chucked
- Broaching keyways in large bores
- Heavy repair machining in a plant maintenance workshop

How It Is Built and What Can Be Changed
Operations Performed
- Turning
- Taper turning
- End facing
- Drilling
- Reaming
- Tapping
- Broaching
- Thread cutting
Quality Control
- Bed alignment checked over the full ordered centre distance
- Spindle run-out and bearing setting measured on the assembled headstock
- Carriage and cross slide travel verified against 830mm and 540mm swing
- Thread chart positions exercised across metric inch module and pitch
- Test cut taken and the machine checked before crating
Customisation Options
- Centre distance specified at 1500mm 2000mm 3000mm or 4000mm
- Auto-feeding for the upper tool post added as an option
- Choice of the C6180A foot post structure or the integral bed C6180
- Supply voltage frequency and phase built to your site
- Heavy workholding steady rest and tool post package quoted with the machine
How It Compares With the Alternatives
| C6180 with integral bed | The C6180 has a 600mm integral bed and upper tool post auto-feed as standard; the C6180A uses the 560mm bed and foot post structure with auto-feed optional |
|---|---|
| C6163B in the same family | The C6163B swings 660mm over the bed and 400mm over the cross slide; the C6180A gives 830mm and 540mm for larger diameters |
| CQ6280 Universal Heavy Duty Horizontal Lathe Machine | The CQ6280 is a gap-bed machine reaching 1000mm in the gap; the C6180A is chosen where long centre distance up to 4000mm matters more than gap swing |
| Moving heavy parts to a drill or broaching machine | Drilling reaming tapping and broaching on the lathe avoid lifting and re-aligning a part that may weigh tonnes |
Running the Machine
Step 1
Confirm the centre distance you order covers your longest part before the machine is built
Step 2
Install on a foundation matched to the machine length and level the bed over its whole run
Step 3
Support long shafts with steady rests before taking heavy roughing cuts
Step 4
Select the thread system and pitch from the chart before engaging the lead screw
Step 5
Use the upper tool post auto-feed where fitted for repeated facing passes
Step 6
Carry out drilling reaming tapping and broaching in the same setup as turning where possible
Step 7
Recheck bed level after the first weeks of production and keep the ways lubricated

Questions About Horizontal Manual Lathe Machine C6180A
How long a part can the C6180A turn?
Distance between the two tops is specified at 1500mm, 2000mm, 3000mm or 4000mm. Choose the length when you order, since it is built into the bed.
What is the difference between C6180A and C6180?
Structure. The C6180A uses the bed and foot post arrangement with a 560mm bed and optional upper tool post auto-feed. The C6180 has an integral bed 600mm wide with the auto-feed as standard.
What diameters will it swing?
830mm over the bed and 540mm over the cross slide.
Which threads can it cut?
Metric, inch, module and pitch threads. Send us the specific pitches you need and we will confirm them against the chart.
Does it need a special foundation?
Yes. It is a large machine and the foundation must suit its weight and the centre distance ordered. Tell us the variant and we will send the installation drawing.
What voltage do you build to and how is it shipped?
We wire to the voltage frequency and phase on your order. The machine is packed for sea freight from Xi'an and shipped FOB CFR or CIF.
What are your payment terms?
30 percent by T/T on order and 70 percent before shipment, or an irrevocable L/C at sight.
