What This Machine Does
The TL120CNC and TL120XLCNC cut valve seats and guides on cylinder heads under CNC control instead of by operator feel. A self-adaptive triple air-cushion boring head floats the spindle onto the guide centreline, so the seat is cut concentric to the guide rather than to however the head happened to sit on the table. The spindle uses a built-in high-torque motor, and the machine is built light in mass but high in stiffness so it holds position through a full cut. Seat geometry is entered on a touch screen and repeated on every head that follows, which is what turns seat cutting from a skilled hand operation into a repeatable one. The XL version takes the longer cylinder heads used on commercial and industrial engines.
Why Buyers Choose This Machine
- Air-cushion self-centring removes the seat-to-guide concentricity error that causes valve leakage after a rebuild
- Touch-screen seat programs repeat the same geometry head after head instead of depending on who is running the machine
- General cutting and step cutting modes cover both single-angle seats and multi-angle seat forms on one machine
- JOG spindle positioning lets the operator stop the cutting bit anywhere, so there is no blind area during setup
- High-torque built-in spindle motor holds cutting speed in hardened and induction-treated seat inserts
- TL120XLCNC extends the working envelope to long commercial-vehicle and industrial cylinder heads
Where Valve Seat and Guide Cutting Machine TL120CNC Earns Its Place
Problems It Solves
- Seats cut off the guide centreline leak and burn valves within a short service interval
- Hand-fed seat cutting gives a different result for every operator and every shift
- Blind areas during setup lead to crashed cutting bits and scrapped seat inserts
- Multi-angle seat forms are slow and inconsistent when each angle is set up separately
- Long commercial-vehicle heads do not fit the work envelope of car-sized seat machines
Who It Is For
- Engine rebuilding workshops moving from hand-fed seat cutting to programmed cutting
- Truck and bus fleet workshops that recondition their own cylinder heads
- Machine shops that take in head work as a subcontract service
- Distributors equipping new engine rebuild lines in export markets
Application Scenarios
- Reconditioning passenger-car and light-truck cylinder heads in a production rebuild shop
- Cutting hardened seat inserts fitted during LPG and CNG conversion work
- Restoring seat concentricity on heads that have already been resurfaced
- Batch seat work on long heads for trucks buses and stationary engines
- Setting up multi-angle seat profiles for performance and racing head work

How It Is Built and What Can Be Changed
Operations Performed
- Boring
- Seat cutting
- Guide machining
Quality Control
- Seat concentricity checked against the guide bore after cutting
- Spindle run-out verified on the assembled work head before shipment
- Control system and touch-screen functions tested through a full cutting cycle
- Machine run in and test cut on a sample cylinder head before packing
Customisation Options

- Tooling and pilot sets specified for your seat and guide diameters
- Supply voltage and frequency set to your market
- Operating language and manual prepared for your shop
How It Compares With the Alternatives
| Manual valve seat boring machine TX90 / TL120 | The manual machines rely on operator feel for depth and feed; the CNC version stores the seat program and repeats it, which matters once you are doing volume head work |
|---|---|
| Digital display machine TL120DRO | The DRO machine shows position but the operator still drives the cut; the CNC machine executes the cutting cycle itself |
| Hand-held seat cutting tooling | Hand tooling is cheap and portable but cannot hold seat-to-guide concentricity repeatably across a batch of heads |
Running the Machine
Step 1
Clamp the cylinder head and let the air-cushion head self-centre on the valve guide
Step 2
Select or enter the seat program for the head you are cutting
Step 3
Choose general cutting for a single-angle seat or step cutting for a multi-angle form
Step 4
Use JOG to check bit clearance before starting the cycle
Step 5
Run the cycle and check the first seat for width and concentricity before continuing the batch
Step 6
Keep the air supply clean and dry so the cushion head centres correctly

Questions About Valve Seat and Guide Cutting Machine TL120CN
What is the difference between TL120CNC and TL120XLCNC?
The working envelope. TL120XLCNC is the long version and takes the longer cylinder heads used on commercial vehicles and industrial engines. Tell us the longest head you run and we will confirm which model fits.
Can it cut hardened valve seat inserts?
Yes. The spindle uses a built-in high-torque motor so it holds cutting speed in hard seat material. The cutting bits must be specified for the insert material you are working with.
Does the machine cut valve guides as well as seats?
Yes. It is a valve seat and guide cutting machine, so guide machining and seat cutting are done in the same setup, which is what keeps them concentric.
What is the difference between general cutting and step cutting?
General cutting produces a single seat angle in one pass. Step cutting works through a multi-angle seat form step by step, which is used where the seat needs a defined throat and top cut as well as the seat angle.
What tooling is supplied with the machine?
Tooling is specified against your seat and guide diameters. Send us the seat range you work on and we will quote the pilot and cutter set with the machine.
What are your payment and trade terms?
We accept FOB CFR and CIF. Payment is 30 percent by T/T on order and 70 percent before shipment, or an irrevocable L/C at sight.
