High Speed Fanfold Kraft Paper Folding Machine built by Emerson Machinery

Product Overview

This is the newest design in our folding range, made for producing the kraft paper rolls used by paperEZ and Ranpak style systems. The kraft roll is perforated, folded and stacked into a pile automatically by the machine. It comes in two widths, 470 mm and 780 mm, and it is the fastest folding line we build at 200 m/min on the 500 model and 150 m/min on the 800.

Key Benefits

  • 200 m/min on the 500 model, more than double the 90 m/min of the standard fanfold machine
  • Two widths from one design, 470 mm and 780 mm, so one platform covers both pack formats
  • PLC control with a Weinview touch screen, so fold length changes are set rather than rebuilt
  • Perforation, folding and stacking all happen automatically onto a conveyor

Application Scenarios

  • Fanfold pack production for void fill dispensers
  • Consumable supply for paperEZ and Ranpak style packing systems
  • In-house production of void fill paper for large fulfilment centres
  • Contract converting of kraft reels into fanfold packs

Who It Is For

  • Converters supplying fanfold consumables to packaging distributors
  • Fulfilment operations paying per metre for bought-in fanfold packs
  • Packaging groups supplying their own branded void fill paper
  • Existing fanfold producers whose 90 m/min line has become the bottleneck

Problems It Solves

  • Bought-in fanfold packs are a permanent per-metre cost for every dispenser in service
  • Slower folding lines cap how much consumable a converter can supply
  • Changing fold length on a mechanical machine means changing modules by hand
  • Loose stacks that will not feed cleanly jam the dispenser at the packing bench

Technical Features

  • Designed for making the kraft paper roll used by paperEZ and Ranpak style systems
  • Perforated cutting, folding and stacking done automatically
  • Perforation and folding length 8-15 inch, standard 11 inch, module change required to alter it
  • Runs 40-150 gsm paper
  • Automatic lifting unwinding system for reels up to 1200 mm
  • Inverter and PLC control with a Weinview brand touch screen
  • Stacking by conveyor
  • 380V 3 phase supply, 3.5 kW on the 500 model and 5 kW on the 800

Manufacturing And Quality

The machine is built at our workshop in Ruian, Zhejiang. UDEM has issued CE attestations of conformity to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for our honeycomb paper making machine, bag making machine and paper folding machine, referencing EN ISO 12100:2010 and EN 60204-1:2018. A demo machine is kept running in the workshop so the build can be shown and installation supported by video call.

Customization

We have engineers who develop new machine functions to customer requirements, and where the current machine cannot meet a requirement we supply a solution instead. Several machines in this range started exactly that way.

Compared With Our Other Machines

Three folding machines cover this category. The standard EM-PF500A runs 470 mm at 90 m/min and weighs 800 KG, the simplest of the three. This high speed version more than doubles that to 200 m/min, adds PLC and touch screen control and an automatic lifting unwind, and comes in a 780 mm width as well. The EM-PF800A with C-fold inline instead feeds two rolls and folds them into a stronger 2-layer paper.

Use Guide

Load the reel on the automatic lifting unwinding system. Set the perforation and folding length on the touch screen, 11 inch being standard; lengths outside the installed module range need a module change. Run at the speed the stock will take, then collect the folded stack from the conveyor and band it for the dispenser.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is fanfold paper used for

It is the consumable for void fill dispensers such as paperEZ and Ranpak style systems. The machine perforates, folds and stacks it automatically.

How fast does this machine run

200 m/min on the 500 model and 150 m/min on the 800 model.

What fold lengths are possible

8-15 inch. The standard is 11 inch, and changing outside the installed range needs a module change.

What widths are available

470 mm on the PF500B and 780 mm on the PF800B.

What controls does the machine use

Inverter and PLC of local brand with a Weinview touch screen.
