How Fanfold Kraft Paper Is Made for Void Fill Systems

What a fanfold pack is

A fanfold pack is kraft paper that has been perforated, folded and stacked into a pile. It is the consumable that feeds a void fill dispenser at the packing bench, and our folding machines are designed for making the kraft paper roll used by paperEZ and Ranpak style systems.

The three operations

Perforated cutting sets where the paper will tear at the bench. Folding lays the web into the fan pattern. Stacking collects the folded web into a pile on a conveyor. All three happen automatically in one pass.

Fold length

Perforation and folding length runs from 8 to 15 inch, with 11 inch the standard. Changing outside the installed module range needs a module change, so the pack format is worth settling before the machine is ordered.

Speed and width

The EM-PF500A runs 470 mm at 90 m/min. The high speed EM-PF500B runs 470 mm at 200 m/min, and the PF800B runs 780 mm at 150 m/min with PLC control and a Weinview touch screen.

Single layer or two layer

The EM-PF800A feeds two kraft rolls and C-folds them inline into one 2-layer paper before perforating, which makes the finished fanfold much stronger on the surface as a packing cushioning material.

Paper and power

The high speed machines run 40-150 gsm stock from reels up to 1200 mm on a 1 Ton unwinding stand, on a 380V 3 phase supply drawing 3.5 kW or 5 kW.
