Why Ton Bags Are A Different Discipline

Everything about a ton bag station is dominated by one fact: you cannot correct a mistake. A 1000 kg bag that is 5 kg light cannot be topped up on a conveyor. The weight has to be right the first time, every time.

Three Stage Feeding Is Not Optional

The published feeding mechanism uses two gate valves, large and small, to control coarse, slow and fine three-stage feeding. Bulk goes in on the large valve, then the rate steps down twice so the last few kilograms land slowly and predictably.

That is what makes 0.1 percent static accuracy to OIML class III possible on a bag this size, with dynamic accuracy of 0.2 to 0.3 percent.

Hook Handling And Bag Presentation

The loops, the spout diameter and whether there is an inner liner all change the hook arrangement and the inflation and sealing collar. Send the FIBC drawing with the enquiry rather than after the order.

A bag that is not properly inflated before filling will fold in on itself and fill unevenly, which is a stability problem on the pallet later.

Dust Control At Both Ends

Filling a ton bag displaces a cubic metre or more of air, and that air carries product with it. A sealed collar with extraction keeps the working area clean and stops product loss.

Discharge is worse, because the bag is being cut or untied above an open hopper. Our ton bag unpacking machine is published with dust collection included and a 1.5 cubic metre hopper, at 500 to 2000 kg an hour.

Layout And Utilities

Published external dimensions on the HNWT2000 are 5200 x 1800 x 3500 mm, designed to the actual application. Plan the headroom before you plan anything else, because a ton bag station is a tall machine and retrofitting it into a low bay is the most common project failure we see.

Utilities are modest: air at 0.4 to 0.6 MPa at 2 cubic metres an hour, and 3.5 kW at 380 V plus or minus 10 percent.

Throughput Expectations

Published speed is 6 to 20 bags an hour across the 500 kg to 2000 kg range. That sounds slow until you multiply it out: at 15 bags an hour of 1000 kg bags you are moving 15 tonnes an hour with one operator.

Where Ton Bags Beat Small Bags

For any intermediate that goes to another factory rather than to a shelf, ton bags almost always win on total cost. One 1000 kg FIBC replaces forty 25 kg sacks, which is forty closures, forty labels and forty manual handling events removed.
