Dewaxing

Winterization Machine

Whole winterization systems that chill, hold, filter and recover solvent to remove waxes and lipids from crude extract.

Winterization is the dewaxing step between extraction and distillation. Crude extract is dissolved in cold ethanol and held at low temperature until the waxes, fats and chlorophyll-bound lipids fall out of solution, then the chilled mixture is filtered and the ethanol is recovered for reuse. Skipping it leaves wax in the feed, which clouds the oil, blocks filters and carries over into the distillation column.

Who This Equipment Is For

  • Hemp and botanical processors refining crude extract into a clear oil
  • Plants running CO2 or ethanol extraction that need a dewaxing stage before distillation
  • Producers who want the ethanol recovered rather than consumed each batch
  • Contract processors handling material from several farms with variable wax loads

Problems It Solves

  • Cloudy, waxy crude that will not distil cleanly
  • Filter blinding and long filtration times at the dewaxing step
  • Ethanol lost to evaporation instead of being recovered
  • Separate chillers, tanks and filters that were never designed to work as one line

Key Benefits

Supplied as a whole system

Chilling, holding, filtration and solvent recovery are engineered as one line rather than assembled from loose parts.

Cleaner feed for distillation

Removing wax and lipids protects the downstream column and improves the clarity of the finished oil.

Ethanol recovery built in

The recovery stage returns ethanol to the process instead of losing it.

Installed and commissioned

Systems are assembled and tested before packing, and installation support is provided on site.

Specifications For This Line Are Quoted Per Project

Winterization systems are configured around your batch size, ethanol ratio and hold temperature. Specifications are quoted per project.

Rather than publishing a model that would not match your process, the specification is written after two questions are answered: what raw material you will process, and what production capacity you need per batch. Machines are built from 0.5L to 200L, and larger capacity is customised on request.

FAQ

Questions About Winterization

Is winterization always required?
It depends on the material and the finished product. Crude extract that still carries waxes and lipids has to be dewaxed before short path distillation, otherwise the wax carries into the column.
Do you supply the whole system or single vessels?
A whole winterization system is supplied, engineered as one line. Individual stages can also be quoted where you are extending an existing plant.
Can the ethanol be recovered and reused?
Yes. Solvent recovery is part of the system design.
What do you need in order to quote?
Your raw material and the production capacity you need per batch.
