Down to -75°C

Low Temperature Ethanol Extraction Machine

Cold ethanol extraction systems operating down to -75°C so waxes and chlorophyll stay behind in the biomass.

Cold ethanol extraction chills the solvent hard before it ever touches the biomass. At around -75°C ethanol is still an excellent solvent for cannabinoids and other target actives, but it is a poor solvent for waxes, lipids and chlorophyll, so most of that unwanted load is simply never picked up. The result is a cleaner crude that needs less refining, which is why cold ethanol lines are so common in high-throughput hemp plants.

Low temperature extraction and concentration line in the Better Industry workshop

Who This Equipment Is For

  • Hemp processors running high biomass throughput per day
  • Producers who want a light-coloured crude with a lower chlorophyll load
  • Plants that want extraction and solvent recovery integrated in one line
  • Operations moving away from batch maceration towards a repeatable cold process

Problems It Solves

  • Dark, chlorophyll-heavy crude that needs aggressive remediation
  • Wax pulled into the extract, adding a longer winterization step
  • Ethanol consumption that is not recovered efficiently
  • Ambient temperature extraction that gives inconsistent colour batch to batch

Key Benefits

Selective at low temperature

At -75°C the ethanol takes the target actives and leaves much of the wax and chlorophyll in the biomass.

Less downstream refining

A cleaner crude means a shorter, cheaper path to a finished oil.

Line integration

Extraction, chilling and solvent recovery are engineered together.

Repeatable batches

Controlled temperature makes colour and profile consistent from run to run.

Specifications For This Line Are Quoted Per Project

Systems are built around your daily biomass throughput, solvent ratio and recovery target. Specifications are quoted per project.

Rather than publishing a model that would not match your process, the specification is written after two questions are answered: what raw material you will process, and what production capacity you need per batch. Machines are built from 0.5L to 200L, and larger capacity is customised on request.

FAQ

Questions About Ethanol Extraction

How cold does the system run?
The low temperature ethanol extraction system is built to run at -75°C.
Why extract cold instead of at ambient temperature?
Cold ethanol is selective. It dissolves the target actives while leaving much of the wax, lipid and chlorophyll load behind in the biomass, so the crude needs less refining.
Can this be combined with winterization and distillation?
Yes. Cold ethanol extraction, winterization and short path distillation can be supplied as one production chain.
What information do you need to quote?
Your raw material and the production capacity you need per batch.
