AKR417 Low-Alloy Heat-Resistant Electrode for High-Temperature and Corrosive Service.
A low-sodium coated electrode for all-position welding of high-strength, heat-resistant steels with excellent creep resistance and low-temperature toughness in demanding industrial environments.
Product Overview
AKR417 is a low-sodium type covered electrode for manual metal arc welding of low alloy heat-resistant steels. It is designed for DC reverse polarity operation and supports all-position welding, including flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
The electrode delivers high strength and excellent creep resistance at elevated temperatures, along with good low-temperature toughness and resistance to temper embrittlement. It is suitable for field installation and construction in harsh service conditions.
It complies with EN ISO 3580 B E6215-G, AWS A5.5 E9015-G, and GB/T 5118 E6215 2C1MV classifications. It also meets the project requirements specified in AWS A5.5 B9016-B3.
Application: Used in petroleum refining, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, using harsh conditions, such as corrosion medium complex AsMe SA542 Tpye of large equipment. Class D.4 A832 Gr. 22 v (2.25Cr1Mo0.25v) class steel plate welding.
Key Benefits
Low Impurity Deposited Metal.
The deposited metal has extremely low levels of sulfur and phosphorus, with S at 0.003% and P at 0.006%, ensuring high purity and improved weld integrity.
Excellent Low-Temperature Toughness
The deposited metal achieves impact energy greater than 54 J at minus 30 degrees C, providing reliable performance in cold environments.
High Resistance to Temper Embrittlement.
The electrode produces weld metal with a very low x factor, indicating strong resistance to temper embrittlement during long-term exposure to high temperatures.
All-Position Welding Capability
The electrode maintains stable arc characteristics and good weld pool control in all positions, enabling consistent weld quality during field construction.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of large equipment in petroleum refining and petrochemical plants.
- Construction and maintenance of chemical processing units under corrosive and high-temperature conditions.
- Power generation systems requiring high-temperature strength and creep resistance.
- Fabrication of pressure vessels and piping using Class D.4 A832 Gr.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying materials for high-temperature and corrosive service applications.
- Fabricators and EPC contractors working with heat-resistant steels in oil & gas and power generation projects.
- Maintenance teams performing field repairs on equipment exposed to elevated temperatures and complex media.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving high-strength, creep-resistant welds in heat-resistant steels without compromising low-temperature toughness.
- Reducing the risk of temper embrittlement in weld joints exposed to long-term high-temperature service.
- Ensuring consistent weld quality and mechanical properties in field welding where environmental control is limited.

How It Compares
AKR417 is a low-sodium electrode designed for high-temperature and corrosive service, differing from standard low-alloy electrodes by its low impurity levels and high resistance to temper embrittlement. Compared to ordinary steel welding materials, it offers superior creep strength, low-temperature toughness, and weld metal purity. It is not intended for general-purpose mild steel welding but is specifically suited for heat-resistant steels in demanding industrial applications.
