AK-ENiFe-CI Nickel-Cored Electrode for Cast Iron Repair and Joining.
A nickel-cored electrode for welding average grades of cast iron, producing soft, machinable weld metal with minimal cracking risk on cold or slightly preheated base material.
Product Overview
AK-ENiFe-CI is a nickel-cored electrode designed for joining and repairing average grades of cast iron. It is used to weld thin sections and restore broken parts, with deposition performed on cold or slightly preheated material.
The electrode produces a soft, easily machinable weld metal and is suitable for applications where crack resistance and post-weld machinability are important. It meets EN ISO 1071 E C NiFe-1 3, AWS A5.15, ENiFe-CI GB/T 10044, and ENiFe-1 classifications.
Application: Used to thin weld parts of cast irons and repair broken parts.
Key Benefits
Soft and Machinable Weld Metal.
The deposited metal is soft and easily machinable, reducing the need for extensive post-weld machining and minimizing tool wear.
Low Cracking Risk on Cold or Slightly Preheated Material.
Deposition can be performed on cold or slightly preheated cast iron without requiring high preheat temperatures, reducing thermal stress and distortion.
Suitable for Repair and Joining of Cast Iron Parts.
Ideal for thin-section welding and repair of broken cast iron components, including cast iron castings and structural parts.
Complies with Multiple International Standards.
Supplied to EN ISO 1071 E C NiFe-1 3, AWS A5.15, ENiFe-CI GB/T 10044, and ENiFe-1 classifications.
Where It Is Used
- Repair of broken cast iron parts.
- Joining thin sections of average-grade cast iron.
- Welding cast iron castings with minimal preheat.
- Restoration of damaged or worn cast iron components.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying cast iron repair solutions.
- Foundries and maintenance teams repairing cast iron machinery and components.
- Fabricators working with cast iron in industrial and mechanical applications.
Problems It Solves
- Cracking in welds when joining cast iron without proper preheat or filler metal selection.
- Difficulty in machining hard or brittle weld metal after repair.
- Lack of a single electrode that meets multiple standards for cast iron repair.

Technical Features
- Nickel-cored electrode for welding average grades of cast iron.
- Chemical composition includes 45-60% Ni, ≤2.0% C, ≤4.0% Si, ≤2.5% Mn, ≤0.030% S, ≤1.0% Al, ≤2.5% Cu, with Fe as balance.
- Deposited metal is soft and machinable.
- Suitable for cold or slightly preheated base material.
- Available in 2.5 mm, 3.2 mm, and 4.0 mm diameters.
Use Guide
- Select electrode diameter based on joint thickness: 2.5 mm for thin sections, 3.2 mm for medium, 4.0 mm for heavier sections.
- Use recommended current ranges: 2.5 mm – 70-110 A flat/horizontal, 3.2 mm – 100-140 A flat/horizontal, 4.0 mm – 140-180 A flat/horizontal.
- Clean the joint area of oil, grease, rust, and scale before welding to ensure sound fusion.
- Avoid excessive heat input; use short, controlled passes to minimize distortion and residual stress.
- Allow the weld to cool slowly after completion to reduce the risk of cracking.
How It Compares
AK-ENiFe-CI is a nickel-cored electrode for average-grade cast iron, producing soft, machinable weld metal. It differs from high-nickel electrodes like ENiFe-CI (GB/T 10044) in that it is designed for lower preheat requirements and is suitable for cold or slightly preheated material. Unlike iron-based electrodes, it offers better crack resistance but may not match the strength of the base metal. For high-strength or high-temperature applications, a higher-nickel or alloy-specific electrode may be required.
