AKR407L Low-Hydrogen Sodium Coated Electrode for Cr2.25%Mo1.0% Heat-Resistant Steel.
A low-hydrogen natrium type covered electrode for all-position welding of 2.25Cr1Mo heat-resistant steel, with stable arc, low spatter, and good slag detachability.
Product Overview
AKR407L is a low-hydrogen natrium coated electrode designed for manual metal arc welding of Cr2.25%-Mo1.0% heat-resistant steel, such as 2.25Cr1Mo, used in high temperature and high pressure applications.
The electrode delivers stable arc performance, low spatter, and good slag detachability, resulting in a clean weld bead with a smooth surface finish.
It is suitable for all-position welding using direct current reversed polarity (DCRP) and meets the EN ISO 3580 B E6216 2C1M, AWS A5.5 E9015-B3, and GB/T 5118 E6015-B3L classifications.
Application: Used for welding Cr2.25%-Mo1.0% (like 2.25Cr1Mo) heat-resistant steel below 550 ℃ such as high temperature and high pressure pipes, chemical machinery, petroleum cracking un it ,etc.
Key Benefits
Stable Arc and Low Spatter.
The low-hydrogen natrium coating ensures a stable arc during welding, minimizing spatter and improving weld consistency, especially in overhead and vertical positions.
Good Slag Detachability
Slag lifts off easily after welding, reducing the need for extensive cleaning between passes and helping prevent slag inclusions.
All-Position Welding Capability
Designed for flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead welding positions, allowing a single electrode to be used across multiple joint orientations.
Suitable for Heat-Resistant Steel.
Specifically formulated for Cr2.25%-Mo1.0% steel, providing weld metal properties that match the base material in service conditions up to 550 ℃.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of high temperature and high pressure pipes made from 2.25Cr1Mo steel.
- Fabrication and repair of chemical machinery components operating at elevated temperatures.
- Construction and maintenance of petroleum cracking units.
- Joining heat-resistant steel in power plant and petrochemical plant systems.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying electrodes for heat-resistant steel applications.
- Fabricators and EPC contractors working with 2.25Cr1Mo and similar heat-resistant steels.
- Maintenance teams in power plants and refineries requiring reliable, code-compliant welding consumables.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving consistent weld metal properties in Cr2.25%-Mo1.0% steel when the base metal requires specific preheat and post-weld heat treatment.
- Reducing welding defects such as porosity and cracking in high-strength heat-resistant joints by using a low-hydrogen electrode.
- Simplifying consumable selection by using one electrode that covers all positions and meets multiple international standards.

Use Guide
- Preheat the base metal to 160–220 ℃ before welding to reduce the risk of cracking.
- Use direct current reversed polarity (DCRP) for optimal arc stability and weld quality.
- After welding, perform post-weld heat treatment (tempering) at 680–720 ℃ to restore the mechanical properties and relieve residual stresses.
- Store electrodes in a dry environment and re-bake if exposed to moisture before use.
- Clean the joint area of oil, rust, paint, and moisture prior to welding to ensure sound fusion and minimize defects.
How It Compares
AKR407L and E6015-B3 both weld Cr2.25%-Mo1.0% steel with low-hydrogen characteristics, but AKR407L is specifically formulated for all-position welding with improved slag detachability and lower spatter. Basic-coated electrodes like E6015-B3 are also low-hydrogen but may require stricter handling and storage. AKR407L offers a balance of processability and mechanical performance for demanding heat-resistant steel applications.
