AKM-55 Flux-Cored Wire for Low-Temperature Welding of 1% Ni Steel and X80 Pipeline.
A seamless flux-cored wire with 1% Ni content and ultra-low diffusible hydrogen (≤3 ml/100g), designed for high deposition efficiency and excellent impact toughness in critical low-temperature applications.
Product Overview
AKM-55 is a metal powder type seamless flux-cored wire containing 0.80–1.10% Ni, formulated for welding low-alloy steels requiring high toughness at low temperatures, including 1% Ni steel and X80 pipeline steel.
The wire delivers ultra-low diffusible hydrogen content (≤3 ml/100g), which reduces the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in critical joints. Its seamless design contributes to a stable arc, minimal spatter, and a clean weld bead with almost no slag or dust.
AKM-55 is supplied to EN ISO 17632-A:T 46 4 1Ni M M21, AWS A5.18 E80C-Ni1, and GB/T 8110 E80C-Ni1 classifications, with recommended welding parameters for 1.2 mm and 1.6 mm diameters.
Application: Suitable for X80 pipeline steel bottoming and welding of bridges, port machinery, shipbuilding, offshore platforms, LPG storage tank low temperature equ ipment, such as welding of 1% Ni steel.
Key Benefits
Ultra-Low Diffusible Hydrogen
With a maximum diffusible hydrogen content of ≤3 ml/100g, AKM-55 reduces the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in high-strength and low-temperature welds.
High Deposition Efficiency
The seamless flux-cored design and optimized powder formulation deliver high deposition efficiency, reducing the need for multiple passes and minimizing rework.
Stable Arc and Minimal Spatter.
The wire produces a soft and stable arc with low spatter, improving weld quality and reducing post-weld cleaning time.
Excellent Low-Temperature Impact Performance.
The deposited metal achieves high impact toughness, making it suitable for service in low-temperature environments such as LPG storage tanks and offshore platforms.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of X80 pipeline steel, especially in bottoming and critical joints.
- Construction of bridges, port machinery, and shipbuilding structures.
- Fabrication of offshore platforms and low-temperature equipment.
- Welding of 1% Ni steel components requiring high toughness and crack resistance.
Who It Is For
- Pipeline and oil & gas contractors working with high-strength, low-temperature steels.
- Shipbuilders and offshore fabricators requiring reliable, low-hydrogen consumables.
- Fabricators of LPG storage tanks and cryogenic equipment.
- Welding distributors supplying consumables for critical low-temperature applications.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving sufficient low-temperature impact toughness in welds for 1% Ni steel and X80 pipeline steel without compromising hydrogen control.
- Reducing the risk of hydrogen cracking in thick-section or high-stress joints through ultra-low diffusible hydrogen content.
- Minimizing spatter and slag during welding to improve productivity and reduce post-weld cleanup.
- Maintaining consistent weld quality across multiple passes and joint types with a single, reliable flux-cored wire.

Use Guide
- Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position: 1.2 mm for thin sections and vertical/overhead work, 1.6 mm for higher deposition rates in flat and horizontal positions.
- Set voltage and current within the recommended ranges: 20–32 V and 180–300 A for 1.2 mm; 25–35 V and 250–350 A for 1.6 mm.
- Ensure the wire is stored in a dry environment and not exposed to moisture before use.
- Clean the joint surfaces from rust, oil, paint, and moisture prior to welding to maintain weld quality and hydrogen control.
How It Compares
AKM-55 and AWS A5.18 E80C-Ni1 both provide low-hydrogen, nickel-alloyed flux-cored wire for low-temperature service. AKM-55 is designed with a seamless construction and ultra-low diffusible hydrogen (≤3 ml/100g), which enhances crack resistance. Compared to standard carbon steel flux-cored wires, it offers superior impact toughness and is specifically suited for 1% Ni steel and X80 pipeline applications. It is not intended for use on non-nickel base metals where lower nickel content is required.
