AKD950 Special Welding Rod for Hot Forging Die Surfacing and Repair.

A high-performance welding rod designed for surfacing and repairing hammer and machine forging dies, offering excellent red hardness and resistance to softening at elevated temperatures.

Welding Electrodes

Product Overview

AKD950 is a special welding rod developed for the surfacing and repair of hot forging dies, modeled after the American EUREKA product line. It is formulated to deliver a deposited metal with a balanced alloy composition suitable for high-temperature service.

The deposited metal maintains its hardness and does not soften under prolonged exposure to heat, making it suitable for applications where thermal stability is critical. It can replace materials such as 5CrMnMo and 5CrNiMo, significantly extending mold life.

The rod is designed for use with direct current reverse polarity (DCEN) and provides excellent welding process performance, including a stable arc, minimal spatter, and a smooth, aesthetically pleasing weld bead.

Application: Used for surfacing and repairing hammer forging dies and machine fo rging dies.

Key Benefits

High Red Hardness at Elevated Temperatures.

The deposited metal retains its hardness and resists softening during high-temperature operation, which is essential for maintaining die performance in hot forging applications.

Extended Mold Life

By replacing traditional materials like 5CrMnMo and 5CrNiMo, AKD950 improves the durability and service life of forging dies.

Excellent Welding Process Performance.

The rod produces a stable arc, minimal spatter, and a clean, well-formed weld bead, reducing post-weld cleanup and rework.

Suitable for DC Reverse Polarity.

The electrode is designed for use with direct current reverse polarity (DCEN), which ensures consistent arc stability and good fusion.

Where It Is Used

  • Surfacing of hammer forging dies.
  • Repair of machine forging dies.
  • High-temperature wear-resistant overlays on die surfaces.
  • Replacement of 5CrMnMo and 5CrNiMo in die applications.

Who It Is For

  • Forging die repair shops.
  • Die manufacturing and maintenance teams in heavy industry.
  • Welding contractors working on high-temperature die applications.
  • Fabricators requiring long-lasting die surfaces for repeated use.

Problems It Solves

  • Short mold life due to softening of deposited metal under high-temperature conditions.
  • Inconsistent performance when using standard welding materials in hot forging die repair.
  • Need for frequent rework and replacement of dies made with less durable materials.
  • Poor weld appearance and high spatter during die surfacing operations.
