AKD802 Cobalt-Chromium-Tungsten Surfacing Electrode for High-Temperature Wear and Corrosion Resistance.
A titanium-calcium coated surfacing electrode with cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy core designed for applications requiring wear and corrosion resistance at temperatures up to 650℃.
Product Overview
AKD802 is a surfacing electrode with a titanium-calcium coating and a cobalt-chromium-tungsten alloy core, intended for manual metal arc welding. It is used to deposit a wear- and corrosion-resistant layer on components operating under high temperature and mechanical stress.
The electrode is designed for DC reverse polarity connection. The deposited metal maintains good wear and corrosion resistance at 650℃, making it suitable for service conditions involving repeated thermal cycling and impact loading.
Application: Used in occasions where good wear resistance and certain corrosion resistance are required to work at around 650℃, such as surfacing high temperat ure and high pressure valvesand hot shear knives, etc., where impact and cold and heat are interlaced.
Key Benefits
High-Temperature Wear and Corrosion Resistance.
The deposited metal retains its protective properties at 650℃, which is critical for components exposed to high-temperature environments with abrasive or corrosive media.
Stable Arc with Titanium-Calcium Coating.
The titanium-calcium coating provides a stable arc and consistent metal transfer, supporting reliable deposition during surfacing operations.
Controlled Heat Input with Low Current Short Arc.
Recommended low current short arc welding helps minimize dilution and distortion, especially on thin or heat-sensitive base metals.
Crack Prevention Through Post-Weld Heat Treatment.
Tempering at 600-700℃ for one hour, or slow cooling in dry hot sand or plant ash, reduces residual stresses and prevents cracking after welding.
Where It Is Used
- Surfacing of high-temperature and high-pressure valves.
- Reinforcement of hot shear knives in metal processing.
- Weld overlay on components subject to thermal cycling and impact.
- Repair and build-up of parts operating in aggressive environments at elevated temperatures.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying specialty surfacing electrodes.
- Maintenance teams in power plants and petrochemical facilities requiring durable repair solutions.
- Fabricators working on high-temperature components with wear and corrosion demands.
Problems It Solves
- Loss of performance in surfacing layers due to degradation at temperatures above 600℃.
- Cracking in weld overlays caused by residual stresses after welding without proper post-treatment.
- Inconsistent surfacing quality when using electrodes not designed for high-temperature service.

Use Guide
- Bake electrodes at approximately 150℃ for one hour before use to ensure low hydrogen content.
- Preheat the base metal to 300-600℃ depending on workpiece size and base metal type.
- Use low current and short arc welding technique to control heat input and dilution.
- After welding, temper the component at 600-700℃ for one hour, or cool slowly in dry hot sand or plant ash to prevent cracking.
How It Compares
AKD802 is a cobalt-based surfacing electrode designed for high-temperature wear and corrosion resistance. It differs from nickel-based surfacing electrodes, which may offer better toughness but lower high-temperature hardness. Unlike iron-based electrodes, AKD802 maintains its integrity at 650℃ and is not suitable for low-temperature applications where ductility is critical.
