AKD417 Molybdenum-Tungsten-Vanadium Electrode for Wear and Corrosion Resistant Surfacing.
A sodium-coated surfacing electrode with low hydrogen content, designed for high wear, impact, and corrosion resistance in demanding industrial applications.
Product Overview
AKD417 is a molybdenum-tungsten-vanadium alloy electrode with a low hydrogen sodium coating, intended for surfacing welding using DC reverse polarity. It is formulated to deliver good processability, wear resistance, and crack resistance in high-stress environments.
The electrode is used for surfacing applications requiring resistance to strong impact, wear, corrosion, and cavitation, including single and double toothed roller crushers, blades, blast furnace bells, and various stamping dies. It is also suitable for rebuilding worn or damaged surfaces in heavy industrial components.
Application: It is used for surfacing welding where it is resistant to strong impact and wear, corrosion and cavitation, such as single and double toothed roller crush ers, blades, blast furnace bells, etc. It can also be used for surfacing welding of var ious stamping dies.
Key Benefits
High Wear and Impact Resistance.
The alloy composition, including molybdenum (5.0-9.5%), tungsten (1.0-2.5%), and vanadium (0.8-1.3%), provides excellent resistance to abrasion and impact, making it suitable for high-wear components.
Good Crack Resistance
The low hydrogen sodium coating and controlled chemical composition help reduce the risk of cracking during and after welding, especially when proper preheat and baking procedures are followed.
Stable Arc with DC Reverse Connection.
The electrode operates effectively with DC reverse polarity, providing a stable arc and consistent deposition, which supports smooth surfacing operations.
Suitable for High-Preheat Applications.
When preheated above 300°C and baked at 360°C for 1 hour before use, the electrode maintains integrity and minimizes the risk of cracking in thick or high-stress welds.
Where It Is Used
- Surfacing of roller crushers with single or double teeth.
- Rebuilding blades exposed to abrasive or impact loads.
- Repair and surfacing of blast furnace bells.
- Welding and rebuilding of stamping dies.
- Surface hardening of components subject to cavitation and corrosion.
Who It Is For
- Industrial maintenance teams repairing high-wear components in mining and metallurgy.
- Fabricators performing surfacing on heavy machinery parts.
- Welding engineers working on components requiring resistance to impact, wear, and corrosion.
- Surfacing specialists handling stamping dies and industrial rollers.
Problems It Solves
- Cracking in surfacing welds due to inadequate preheat or improper electrode selection.
- Premature wear of components in high-impact or abrasive environments.
- Lack of consistent crack resistance in surfacing applications with complex alloy compositions.
- Difficulty in achieving stable arc and good bead control on high-stress surfacing jobs.

How It Compares
AKD417 is a sodium-coated, low hydrogen electrode designed for surfacing with high wear and crack resistance. It differs from basic-coated electrodes in that it uses DC reverse polarity and is not intended for general structural welding. Compared to other surfacing electrodes with similar alloying elements, AKD417 offers a balance of toughness and hardness suitable for components under combined mechanical and corrosive stress.
