AKD007 Basic Electrode for Cast Iron Mould Surfacing and Repair.

A basic-coated electrode for welding and surfacing gray, ductile and alloy cast iron without preheating, delivering crack-resistant weld metal with ferrite and carbide dispersion.

Welding Electrodes

Product Overview

AKD007 is a basic electrode designed for surfacing and repair welding of cast iron moulds, including gray cast iron, ductile iron and alloy cast iron. It is suitable for applications such as large cast iron rolling dies, forming dies and moulds.

The electrode features a stable arc, easy operation and good process performance. The deposited metal has a ferrite and carbide dispersed microstructure, which provides excellent crack resistance. Welding can be performed without preheating, and the weldment shows no cracks after welding.

Application: This electrode is suitable for welding and repairing the surface of gray cast iron, ductile iron and alloy cast iron. For example, surfacing and repair welding of large cast iron rolling dies, cast iron forming dies and cast iron molds.

Key Benefits

No Preheating Required

AKD007 allows welding on cast iron without preheating, reducing thermal stress and simplifying the repair process.

Crack-Resistant Deposited Metal

The ferrite and carbide dispersed structure of the weld metal resists cracking, even in high-stress repair areas.

Stable Arc and Easy Operation.

The basic coating ensures a stable arc and consistent performance during manual welding, improving weld quality and process control.

Effective Cleaning Before Welding.

Removal of rust, oil, moisture and other contaminants before welding ensures a clean joint and minimizes the risk of defects.

Where It Is Used

  • Surfacing and repair of large cast iron rolling dies.
  • Repair of cast iron forming dies.
  • Welding and surface restoration of cast iron moulds.
  • Repair of gray, ductile and alloy cast iron components.

Who It Is For

  • Welding repair teams working on cast iron dies and moulds in foundries and manufacturing plants.
  • Maintenance crews responsible for restoring worn or damaged cast iron tooling.
  • Fabricators requiring a reliable electrode for cast iron repair without preheating.

Problems It Solves

  • Cracking in welds on cast iron when using electrodes that require preheating or lack crack resistance.
  • Difficulty in achieving stable arc and consistent weld quality on cast iron with standard electrodes.
  • Need for multiple consumables or complex pre-weld procedures for cast iron repair.

Use Guide

  • Bake the electrodes at 300-350°C for 1 hour before welding to ensure low hydrogen content and stable arc.
  • Remove rust, oil, moisture and other contaminants from the weld area before starting the weld.
  • Use 3.2 mm electrode at 100-130 A and 4.0 mm electrode at 130-170 A, depending on joint size and position.
  • Maintain a short arc length and consistent travel speed to achieve good fusion and bead appearance.

How It Compares

AKD007 is a basic electrode for cast iron repair, differing from rutile or cellulosic electrodes used on steel. It is not intended for structural steel welding. Compared to other cast iron electrodes, AKD007 provides crack resistance without requiring preheating, making it suitable for on-site repairs where heating is impractical.
