AK-TH500NQII Low-Alloy Weathering Steel Wire for Ar-80/CO2-20 Shielded Welding.
A gas-shielded welding wire formulated for Q400NQRI and equivalent weathering steel, with controlled S and P and alloying elements Cu, Cr, and Ni to deliver atmospheric corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength.
Product Overview
AK-TH500NQII is a low-alloy weathering steel welding wire designed for gas metal arc welding using an 80% argon + 20% carbon dioxide shielding gas mixture. The wire contains controlled levels of copper, chromium, and nickel, which enhance atmospheric corrosion resistance in varying climatic conditions.
Sulfur and phosphorus content are strictly limited to 0.020% and 0.025% respectively, reducing the risk of hot cracking and improving weld metal toughness. The resulting weld metal exhibits excellent mechanical properties and resistance to cracking during deposition.
Application: For welding of Q400NQRI and equivalent grade weathering steel.
Key Benefits
Atmospheric Corrosion Resistance
The inclusion of Cu, Cr, and Ni in the wire composition promotes the formation of a stable protective layer on the weld surface, significantly extending service life in outdoor and harsh environments.
Low S and P for Crack Resistance.
Sulfur is limited to 0.020% and phosphorus to 0.025%, minimizing the risk of solidification and hot cracking in the weld metal.
High Mechanical Strength
The wire delivers a weld metal with high tensile strength and ductility, meeting the performance requirements of structural applications in weathering steel.
Compatibility with Q400NQRI and Equivalent Grades.
Specifically formulated for welding Q400NQRI and similar weathering steel grades, ensuring chemical and mechanical compatibility with the base metal.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of Q400NQRI weathering steel structures.
- Bridge and railway infrastructure exposed to variable weather.
- Outdoor steel structures requiring long-term corrosion resistance.
- Fabrication of components in coastal or industrial environments.
Who It Is For
- Steel fabricators working with weathering steel in bridge and rail projects.
- Welding distributors supplying consumables for outdoor structural applications.
- Maintenance teams repairing weathering steel components in harsh climates.
Problems It Solves
- Achieving long-term atmospheric corrosion resistance in welds without post-treatment or painting.
- Avoiding weld cracking due to high sulfur and phosphorus content in filler metal.
- Matching filler metal chemistry to weathering steel base metal to prevent galvanic corrosion.

Technical Features
- Formulated for Ar-80/CO2-20 gas shielded welding.
- Chemical composition includes Cu 0.20-0.50%, Cr 0.30-0.90%, Ni 0.20-0.60%, and controlled C 0.10%, Mn 0.6-1.2%, Si 0.60%
- Sulfur content limited to 0.020% and phosphorus to 0.025%
- Supplied to TB/T 2374 ER50-G standard.
Use Guide
- Select wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position; use recommended shielding gas mixture of 80% Ar + 20% CO2.
- Clean base metal surfaces of rust, oil, paint, and moisture before welding to ensure consistent weld quality.
- Maintain proper gas flow rate and shielding gas coverage to prevent porosity and oxidation.
- Follow recommended welding parameters to achieve optimal bead profile and mechanical properties.
How It Compares
AK-TH500NQII is designed specifically for weathering steel applications and provides superior atmospheric corrosion resistance compared to standard low-alloy welding wires. Unlike general-purpose ER50-G wires, it contains intentional alloying additions of Cu, Cr, and Ni to promote protective oxide layer formation. It is not intended for use on non-weathering steels where such alloying elements could lead to embrittlement or mismatched properties.
