AK-ERNiCu-7 Nickel-Copper Welding Wire for Dissimilar Metal and Corrosion-Resistant Applications.
A nickel-copper alloy wire with balanced Mn and Ti additions to prevent hot cracking and porosity, ideal for joining Monel 400/404 and similar alloys in demanding environments.
Product Overview
AK-ERNiCu-7 is a solid nickel-copper welding wire designed for manual and automated arc welding of nickel-copper alloys and dissimilar metal joints between steel and Ni-Cu alloy. It meets EN ISO 18274-S Ni 4060, AWS A5.14 ERNiCu-7, and GB/T 15620 SNi4060 standards.
The nominal composition is 65% Ni-30% Cu-3% Mn-2% Ti, with controlled levels of carbon (0.15%), silicon (1.25%), and impurities (S ≤0.015%, P ≤0.020%). The addition of Mn and Ti helps stabilize the weld pool, reduce hot cracking, and prevent blowholes during solidification.
This wire produces a smooth, attractive weld bead with excellent fluidity, making it suitable for use in heat exchangers, pipes, vessels, and evaporators in offshore, petrochemical, and power plant applications.
Application: Suitable for welding nickel copper alloy. such as Monel400/404. AST MB127and etc. ; Can also be used for welding dissimilar metal between steel and Ni-Cu alloy. and buildup welding on the steel surface;Often used in heat exchanger, pipe, vessel, and evaporator in offshore engineering, petrochemical industry and po wer plant industry.
Key Benefits
Prevents Hot Cracking and Porosity.
The controlled levels of Mn (4.00%) and Ti (1.0%) in the wire composition effectively mitigate hot cracking and blowholes during solidification, improving weld integrity in high-stress environments.
Excellent Weld Pool Fluidity.
The wire delivers a well-flowing weld pool with good wetting action, resulting in a smooth, uniform bead profile that reduces the need for post-weld grinding.
Suitable for Dissimilar Metal Welding.
AK-ERNiCu-7 can be used to join steel to nickel-copper alloys such as Monel 400 and 404, providing a reliable bond in mixed-material systems.
Proven Performance in Corrosion-Resistant Environments.
The wire is commonly used in offshore engineering, petrochemical plants, and power stations where resistance to corrosion and high thermal cycling is required.
Where It Is Used
- Welding of Monel 400 and Monel 404 nickel-copper alloys.
- Dissimilar metal welding between steel and Ni-Cu alloys.
- Buildup welding on steel surfaces for corrosion resistance.
- Fabrication of heat exchangers, pipes, vessels, and evaporators in harsh service conditions.
Who It Is For
- Welding consumable distributors supplying specialty alloys for industrial projects.
- Petrochemical and power plant maintenance teams requiring reliable filler metal for Ni-Cu joints.
- Fabricators working with offshore and marine equipment where corrosion resistance is critical.
Problems It Solves
- Hot cracking and porosity in welds of nickel-copper alloys due to poor weld metal chemistry control.
- Difficulty in achieving sound welds when joining steel to Ni-Cu alloys without proper filler metal selection.
- Lack of consistent, certified filler metal for buildup and repair work in corrosive environments.

Use Guide
- Select the wire diameter based on joint thickness and welding position. Use standard parameters for manual or automated welding processes.
- Clean the base metal surfaces thoroughly to remove oil, rust, moisture, and oxides before welding.
- Maintain proper shielding gas flow (typically argon or argon-helium mix) to prevent contamination and ensure stable arc performance.
- Avoid excessive heat input to prevent distortion and reduce the risk of hot cracking in the weld zone.
How It Compares
AK-ERNiCu-7 is designed for nickel-copper alloys and dissimilar metal joints. It differs from ERNiCrFe-3, which is used for nickel-chromium-iron alloys in high-temperature service. ERNiCu-7 provides better ductility and crack resistance in Ni-Cu systems, while ERNiCrFe-3 offers higher strength and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. For welding steel to Monel, AK-ERNiCu-7 is preferred over standard mild steel wires due to its compatibility and resistance to galvanic corrosion.
